I got a used 2020 mdx hybrid advance. I don't regret it for a minute. My friend has a 2019 mdx advance and says mine feels more responsive than his.

I would say, if you're heart isn't set on getting new, i would look for a 2019 or 2020 hybrid advance. I don't think there are any new ones available in the whole country. But if you expand your search to a larger area, you might be able to find a used one. Mine was 200+ miles away from home.
It wasn't really on my radar until I read feedback here and in acurazine that the hybrid model has been fantastic in terms of fuel efficiency and responsiveness. I will keep an eye out and see if anything pops out. Thanks!

I just paid $42.5k for a barely driven CPO 2020 SHAWD Tech. Though they did work with me on my trade-in. There are basically no discounts on pre-owned inventory of any sort right now.
Thanks for this. Looks like $40-$50K price range for an Advance that was recommended by @bobby2478 is just about right.

I just saw this posted today - 2019 Acura MDX Hybrid with Advance Package For Sale in Seattle, WA - TrueCar
You mind sharing how much you paid?

Only thing to consider with hybrid vs 3.5 is whether you need/want towing capacity as hybrid recommends no towing. If no towing or hauling over recommended weight (which is something like 1,500 lbs including all passengers and cargo) then hybrid is fine. If you want or need the extra flexibility of towing/hauling up to 3,500 or 5,000 lbs, then you should look at 3.5.
My trade-in was a HEV sedan. Other considerations I'd add to your list... Insurance (risk of total loss is higher to account for the battery, etc.), terrain (small-battery hybrids run out of pixie dust very quickly if there's no regen, e.g., on inclines, under a full load, or during high-speed freeway travel, at which point you're lugging a couple hundred pounds of dead weight with a smaller ICE), climate (lithium = less awesome in real winter), parts availability (lack thereof), likelihood that your local service tech will know the powertrain well (pretty small), depreciation & resale value (both reflect lower demand for HEVs generally and the eventual if far-off need to replace the battery pack). Naturally you do get some of that back in lower fuel costs and reduced stress on the ICE and conventional brakes.

I really enjoyed driving the vehicle for the instant-on torque and the smoove, and for a lot of use-cases hybrids are brilliant. But I get why the market has broadly decided the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Test drove 2019 MDX SH-AWD Advance and 2020 SH-AWD Hybrid Tech today. Both impressed me (and my wife) on ride, comfort, safety features and tech goodies. The Advance is from Porsche Dealership and was told that they bought the Advance from Manheim Auctions down in CA. He mentioned about the missing rear wiper and said about a clean carfax but when I check when I got home that it was part of the Fuel Pump Recall. Not too concern since there's already a fix. Got back from dealership and talk about price. It was listed @ $46K with 16K Miles and went with the usual "what numbers are you looking for in order for you take the MDX home?". I told him we're still looking but will consider the vehicle, I did mentioned less than $43K would be my ideal number. He wasn't pushy at all and he said he'll talk to his manager if I am ready to deal.

The hybrid was a lease return (21K Miles) and from an Acura Dealership. Body looks good both exterior and interior. We test drove it and notice that there's a slight delay when I hit the gas pedal. This is my first time driving a hybrid so I don't know what to expect. I did notice the there's less engine noise while driving on surface streets. Unfortunately, I didn't got a chance to drive it in a freeway due to heavy traffic. Sales Rep wasn't helpful at all, it seems like he doesn't want to sell the car, I would expect during our test drive that he'll tell me all about the vehicle but I was the one who keep asking questions, just totally different feeling compared to the Advance Sales Guy. We decline when he offered to come in to his office to talk about the price and went home. My wife did show interest on the Hybrid model and now browsing online and found one:

Used 2020 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid Sport Hybrid w/Advance Pkg For Sale in Spokane Valley WA | LL000786

@Pandaman1784 The price is pretty close to what you've paid for and carfax looks clean. I'll reach out to them tomorrow and see if there's any wiggle room. It's 4.5 hours drive from our home so I can't test drive it.

Thanks!

Yea, i didn't get a chance to test drive mine before purchasing either. Since it still had factory warranty, i bought it and had it shipped to me.

Switch the drive mode to sport+. The hesitation you noticed will be gone.

Also, don't expect too much wiggle room for negotiation. Used cars are flying off the lots. Especially for hard to find combinations like hybrid with advance package.

I generally avoid any auction cars and only buy from an Acura dealer.

Used cars including lease returns goes through a dealer auction. Even the used car market is based around the auction value and prices. The type of auction you should avoid is CoPart, Iaai.

Did you end up finding an MDX to purchase? I'm in the same boat... 2012 and wanting to upgrade to 19/20. (I like the style better than the 2021).
We did eventually found a CPO Fathom Blue Pearl 2020 MDX Advance Sports Hybrid with 16K miles for $53K + TTL. Advertise price was $57,699 but was able to bring it down by comparing a similar trim (less mileage) for sale for $53,899 from an independent dealer within our area.
