I just bought my 2012 at the end of July (tech /entertain pkg)
I average 16.7 mpg for 60% highway and 40% city driving. I haven't strictly done city driving yet nor highway driving, so I can't get a good read on it yet. A/C is usually on but only 3 passengers. I use premium gas only. When on the highway, I'm ususally cruising at 75-80 mph.

Funny, I want to drive slower, but I just can't...MDX just wants to go go go.

MDX Regular Gas

I had a 2012 MDX for 6 months and traded it it for an Infiniti JX-35 (2013) because the gas mileage was sooooo bad on the MDX. I get 24+ MPG on JX-35 and it is the best car I have ever owned, bar none.
So far advanced technically over the Acura.

Bye, bye Acura hello JX-35!!!!:D

Curious why you are on an MDX forum?

How does the Infinity's AWD work? I would think SH-awd is still far superior.

Hi,

I have a base 2012 that I got in February. I keep meticulous mpg records. I calculate mpg based on gas filled vs miles driven. I live in NY. When I did mainly highway driving (70/30) I got around 18.5 mpg. Now its reversed and I do mainly local and I get 16.5-17.5. I rarely use my a/c and prefer the windows open.

I only use premium. Like other posters noted, the benefit in extra mpg by using premium usually outweighs the cost. Even if not, the added cost per tank is usually $2-3 dollars. I fill up three times/month and Ill gladly spend an extra $9 to give my baby the cleanest burning and preferred gas :)

It sucks that a 2012 highly advanced vehicle gets as poor mpg as my old 1997 chevy blazer. It baffles me why Acura hasn't made a more efficient car. However, with gas having been so cheap for many years, efficiency wasnt a priority. I'm sure the next redesign will offer better mpg and probably a hybrid. But to mirror other peoples sentiment, if I wanted good mpg I'd have bought a prius :)

Proud owner of a 2012 base MDX!

Given how bad your math skills must be to justify trading a 6 month vehicle to save some fuel...I would have to question your ability to properly calcuate mpg. JX is nice...(i'm a nissan/infiniti guy) but they've really softened it too much for my taste.

The "luxury" brands typically emphasize performance more than economy. The Pilot is more efficient by a couple mpg on regular unleaded. I think given the performance and size/weight difference between a Blazer and an MDX, the fact the MDX gets similar mpg doesn't seem too bad.
