Hello there,

I found a leak in my passenger rear speaker. after a lot of research I truly thought it was from my gutter/roof rack/Cracks near tailgate. I flood tested all the aforementioned and did not cause any leaks. I went to the dealership today and they suggested it was actually the sunroof rear drainage, that was the first I had ever heard of such a thing. Well, they said it would cost $1200 at least, not including any rust or mold remediation. This evening I borrowed an endoscope from work. A few minutes ago I just took a video of the sunroof and was surprised I was able to find the drainage holes.

The question is, how can I clean this drainage line?

Is the hose broken or loose causing the leak?

How should I consider mold or Rust?

How can other owners clean their gutter before damage is caused?

Photo of Rust by my wheel, probably from internal leaking down that panel.

Photo of the Leak in my passenger side speaker near the trunk. It still works.

There are extra long flexible brushes specifically for sunroof drains, but we saved money by buying a French horn cleaning brush. Long enough that we can see the brush at the bottom of the side rail, and they’re vinyl coated so it won’t scratch anything. We pushed the brush through until it peeked out at the bottom, then used a funnel to carefully pour water down to until it flowed freely. Twice a year seems to work well.
Sometimes spiders will make a home in the drain tube and cause a clog, so it’s an important task to add to your diy maintenance schedule. Don’t forget to do all four corners.

My son bought the brush for us, and I was told at the time he was going to get a French horn cleaning brush. I just asked him where he purchased it and was told that he actually bought a sunroof drain cleaning brush, not a musical instrument rush.
I hope I didn’t send anyone on a wild goose chase, and if I could figure out how to delete my response I would.
