I’ve seen a wide range of highway mileage including some shockingly high (mid 20s) numbers. I’m fine with paying extra for fuel and not pinching every penny just want to compare to what else I could be driving at the same consumption. It could be a much larger or faster vehicle for instance.

My mixed driving usually lines up with Fuelly, so that’s easy enough to figure out.

If you don't care about the cost of fuel, then by all means the type s is a great trip car.

It does not compare favorably to many other options in efficiency and if you are driving more than 50 miles a day I'd be looking elsewhere.

If you use the performance of the car you will never see greater than 20mpg

I’m getting 10-14 on average… is something wrong?
In the City/Suburbia? That's what I get in my 22 MDX Advance (Non Type S). I don't know how 24TypeSAdv is getting 18-19 MPGs in a Type S in the City / Suburbia?? I use almost exclusively Premium Gas since I've had it in August 2021. I drive 80-90% of the time in NORMAL Mode.

Any updates on pure highway mileage? Say, 70-80mph cruise control the whole time.

While in the process of shopping for a Type S I had some professional changes that will double my yearly mileage, all highway miles. Fuel economy/operating cost will become more important to me than it previously was and want to make sure it’s still a good fit.
Fuel economy at 80 is going to be garbage. If you can keep it closer to that 70 number, you can get mid 20s.

We have put a little over 8,000 miles on our S since we bought it. According to the display, we're averaging 17.2mpg

I zero out prior to road trips where we can log more highway miles and have managed 23.x Hard to get a true highway figure because there always seems to be construction or an accident that backs traffic up for miles and kills any chance at a hero run for best mpg.

I have a new 2023 MDX Type S with Advanced package. I l love the car but...... My gas mileage is terrible. I only have 1780 miles on it. It averages 10.4 MPG.... Do you guys think there is something wrong with the vehicle? I also have 2021 Audi A8 which is 8 cylinder 457 HP vehicle. My average on that car is 19MPG...Look at the range on a full tank...It's ridiculous. View attachment 124471
Mine is the same, gotta be a computer issue...I fill mine up and says Range is 180, just got it and ready to take it back If this is the best it can do. Love it and would cry if I had 2 take it back...

So I’m more interested now to know kind of mixed MPG this Type S is getting in the real world since more and more of you have it and have put some real world miles on it. This thread was already started elsewhere, but there wasn’t a ton of feedback.

I know there’s TLX folks that indicate their Type S has challenges hitting 23 on the highway, So I’m interested to know if the MDX Type S even sees the stated 21, or does it struggle to hit 20 on the highway?

Let me hear your honest feedback. Thanks Type S owners.

Range is got to be crazy wrong...

The range/mpg on my 25 MDX Type-S seems reasonably accurate. Most recent fill-up the mpg readout was 16.8 (no highway driving at all), actual based on miles driven and gallons to fill-up was 16.5. The range adjusts itself as you drive, from the initial estimate right after fill-up. Low fuel warning comes on with ~20 miles of range left and takes ~16 gallons to fill up. No issues with either for me.

On my last car, a 2019 Range Rover Sport SCV8, the mpg readout in the trip computer was laughably wrong - it overestimated by 10%. The range estimate wasn't much better. The RRS had a 27.5 gallon fuel tank and the low fuel warning tended to come on with 40-50 miles of range left, but it would take about 21 gallons to fill up at that point.

Don't rely on the Built in MPG calculator. The 180 mile range based on your current Fill up was calculated based on the 10.2 MPGs _ probably all local driving as My guess. Do your own calculation. Note the Miles when you fill up, then drive it to half tank or so, fill it up again and do the calculation based on the number of gallons of gas (premium for sure) and the number of miles driven. I had a 22 MDX Advance, drove it in Normal Mode for the most part, I would see about 13-14 Max in Local Suburban driving which entailed short burst trips. My new 25 A-Spec Advance may be ajust a tad better than tthat. Note, Although I did not drive in Comfort Mode very much in my 22, but using that mode more in the 25, contrary to what I thought, I DO see better MPGs in Comfort mode. AGain I always use Premium (Hi Test in my Day!!) - quality Gasoline.
