You'll prob lose about 2-3mpg in city/hwy. 265/60/18 will rub slightly on some turns, without lifting. Referring to 2007-2013 Acura MDX only. Only the front struts/shocks and rear springs from the 2nd gen pilot would fit. There are skid plates available thru an Instagram user, unfortunately I don't know his user name at the moment. Let's chat on IG instead, I'm rarely on here. @Acura.mdx.adventures

Roof top tent or back attachment tent? I’m planning to go camping and this is my first time to do it. My first step is to look for a good sizable tent for the MDX. I’ve been thinking of a roof top tent but I tend to worry that someone might fall in the middle of the night and break their leg. However, it seems pretty safe from the ground since I won’t be thinking that something might crawl into the tent like a scorpion or any venomous snake or insects. I’ve searched and seen this site: ⛺ SUV Tents Review For 2021 | MOTORING CRUNCH .Wanting to get some thoughts of a ground tent compared to a roof top tent.

I prefer sleeping inside the Car now lol. However, rooftop tent is a great experience--with the right tent. But it can be a pain to setup/take down by yourself. Especially when it rains/windy conditions. The SUV tent attachment is a good middle ground as well, you can still enjoy the outside elements with convenience to hop back into SUV.

Oh yeah, I removed the intake baffle box that’s between the front bumper n the filter box~it was in the way when I was trying to fix the headlight the bull messed up n forgot to put it back where it went.... no loss in mpg n no real noticeable sound difference.

I used Thule's 65" square load bars mounted on Thule's Crossroads for OEM raised roof rails. As for dynamic load vs static load, dynamic load means moving weight and static load means non moving weight. The Thule and OEM crossbars have a 165lbs per bar dynamic load rating. So with 2 bars you'll get to put up to 330lbs. You can then assume that the static load is 2x the dynamic load... 330lbs x 2 = 660lbs. This means you can put a 200lbs rooftop tent on while driving. Then when parked, 2-3 people weighing up to 460lbs can go up and stay on top. However, for safety, you should assume its better to just use 80-90% capacity of the load rating.

So cool to see you running with the pack of Jeeps. I've always thought the MDX is much more capable than it's normal use. 2 questions if you have time.

1. What cross bars did you use along with what cargo carries are those?
2. Forgive my ignorance, but I seen you explaining dynamic vs static load limit. Not sure I follow. Could you elaborate? Thanks!

I think your MDX looks awesome!
And I appreciate the parts list I’m planning on doing the same thing.
Do you have any regrets about this build?
did it effect your car negatively in any way? Thx Owen

That's awesome! The MDX is our new addition and I've got to say, based on what we've taken our Element through,(Titus Canyon Death Valley, Backwoods Nevada near Bodie, everywhere in WA State dirt and snow) Honda's AWD system is completely under rated. Way to Go!!!

It looks great. Is this your MDX?

If so, a few questions, pls.

1. Why remove the under carriage plastics, the hood fabric and the engine cover?

2. Can you tell me what model of car-top tent you used? I'm alway curious about these tents, as the load limit for the Acura rails (and most other brands' rails, too) is much lower than the weight of two people in the tent. Did this cause any grief for you?

thank youi

1. Technically the plastics came off from offroading... some in sand/rocks. The hood fabric and engine cover came off because it kept getting dirty and easier/better to clean the engine and hood.

2. It was Yakima Skyrise 3 Roof Top Tent. When it comes to roof racks, its all about weight distribution in static (stopped) vs dynamic (moving). My rack has a load limit of 165lbs dynamic load limit PER cross bar. However, the RTT's load limit is 600lbs because board/base of the RTT is designed for 600lbs even distribution when stopped. You can assume that the STATIC load limit will be approx double the dynamic load limit.

2x165lbs cross bars

= 330lbs total DYNAMIC load limit.

2x330lbs total dynamic load limit.

= 660lbs STATIC load limit.
