Makes you wonder what is the differences between Honda -vs- Acura because both are very similar in tech and powertrain?

Some of it is based on “expectations.” If you get an MDX, you expect it to be nicer than a Pilot. Well, in some ways, yes. But if I’m unhappy, I rate it less. Part of the reliability data is self reported. Owner Satisfaction” is one of the four things that go into that score. See MDX reliability info in my other picture. Here is Pilot, for grins.

Seems that JD Power could have conflicts based on who pays them (reminds me a bit of Gartner for technology). Operative word is "could". CR is completely independent and funded by its subscribers, they actually buy the vehicles used for testing on the open market.

Criticism of JD Power
Because companies pay J.D. Power licensing fees, there are situations in which J.D. Power is making money off the very companies it’s ranking. This possible conflict of interest is something competitor "Consumer Reports" addressed in a May 2020 article. The article called attention to the fact that J.D. Power charges fees for companies to access survey results, mention the firm in ads, and participate in the Certified Customer Service Program.5

However, J.D. Power claims its surveys provide, “independent and unbiased feedback from a representative sample of verified product owners,” which would negate, in theory, any bias toward its paying customers.

Furthermore, J.D. Power argues, only the companies who perform the best in certain categories can pay for a license. In other words, J.D. Power doesn’t hand out its licenses to just anyone who’s willing to pay the fee.
Exactly. Also explains why some brands keep showing up on JD Power…. I’d sure hate to be the guy that lost the Chevy ad revenue stream. Let’s just put this negative survey data over here… Opps did it fall in the trash? The world may never know.

mrgold35, Kinda sounds very Familiar!! Think GM, Chrysler, Ford, Nissan/Infiniti; Toyota /Lexus; even Audi/VW, and more. In the "old Days", the 5 GM divisons, despote their advertising to the Contrary - shared many, if not all parts/ engines, etc. Caddilac was the MotherShip, then filetr down to Buicks, then OLdsmobile, and finally Dumbed down (afgter a few years ) to Chevy and Pontiac. After that was exposed (I forget when), buyers realized when they were buying Olds Delta 88 with the "Rocket V-8, leading the public to beleive it was an Oldsmobile Engine, was revealed to be a Shared V-* with many divisions. That is somewhat still apllicable , but to a lesser extent today. I. E. Honda / Acura. There are very similar components that are shared however, take the SH-AWD in the Pilot and MDX. There are differences in the performance and characteristics. It even happens between Car Makers... The New Subaru EV ( just being released - forgot the name), shares Much with the New Toyota EV, Accept Subaru's Symetrical AWD system. There are very few EVs with AWD (Tesla's is $20K more).
More on point about the J.D. Power's reviews, reference has been made to CRs reviews. I am a memeber of CR (on Line subsription), and have read their reviews on many paroducts that I was contemplating to purchase (Fridges, appliances, etc.). I also read CR people's reviews that are posted. There are products that recieved CR's hiogher accolades, that posters have Bashed in their real world usage. I agree, that reading those and You Tube reviews (I did for my 2022 MDX Advance), which give that vehicle high accolades, makes you more comfortable with your selection, beyond the Subjective ingediaents: Looks and Feel being foremost. I'm a Shopper and a Manual reader, always was, ( I want to Know How My Car or Major Appliance Works, like the SH-AWD, for example), and will always be. Some people pick what their Eyes Like, Pick the Col;or they like, and move on. So, no matter the ratings that the MDX has or will receive (there have been many on You Tube > many of which said the 2022 MDX was the best SUV on the new market , last year anyway), I drove a few others, I weighed the $$$$ factor, but most of all, the minute I got behind the wheel , and drove it on all roads, I was Hooked, and Got It . Most Happy that I did !!

I'm in the group that does not hold much value to these ratings. Re MDX, I have had five. The first two (01 & 05 Tourings) were purchased used and driven significant miles after the warranty (the 01 had 90k miles on it when I bought it). The new 11 Advance I had for six years, and then the leased 17 Advance and now 20 Advance. The most significant issue I have had among the five was the performance of the AC from the factory on my 2011 that took three trips to the dealer to locate and correct.

I mention the above as I am also a longtime subscriber to CR. I use their ratings of products they have actually tested. Everything from TVs to Mattresses. However, the questionaires they send out are very extensive and time consuming. I have never filled one out. So I'm one positive review for five seperate MDX model years that was not reported. I am convinced that with the ratings, as with much of this forum, the negatives are amplified as folks having those issues are way more likely to be upset and report, while folks like me are satisfied with their vehicle and remain silent.
