Went to start my car and it did but would not go into gear - "Transmission Problem" error message on dash.
Had to have AAA tow the car - Acura mechanic had to come to house to manually unlock transmission so that we could push car into driveway where it could be loaded on to flatbed. Transmission was staying in park and could not roll car.
There was no sign that transmission had a problem. I bought this car new from the dealer and have had it faithfully serviced by my Acura repair folks. No leaks, grinding noises, clunks, revving engine, burning smells, etc. The car has 104,000 miles and I am the only driver. Live in New England climate, no extreme heat or cold here.
The Acura repair shop said it was a hydraulic controller failure and should not have happened. The repair will be $7500.
Anyone else have this happen? Any ideas of what might have gone wrong? Any suggestions on how I might get partial compensation from Acura? Car is not under warranty and insurance does not cover repair. Timing belt is due to be repaired as well at a cost of $2K. Would you repair or junk the car?
I'm pretty upset because I though Acura was reliable and this type of repair is not what I was expecting from the brand.
Thank you
