The biggest benefit for me is the need to not actively steer (except for sharp turns). Acura's LKAS is only an aide, if you don't steer within a few seconds it will stop working, even on fairly straight highways.

Regarding your takeaways:

• Ability to lane keep without cruise engaged - agree, although there are custom 3rd party versions of the software that allow this.
• Ability to see stopped cars while using cruise - this is a problem with Acura's ACC. All Acura and Honda ACCs cannot see stopped cars unless you are driving under 10mph, unless as you noted the ACC saw the car slow down first.
  • For the 25MDX the dev community hasn't been able to figure out how to get comma's ACC working, so software still is using Acura's ACC with Comma steering for the time being (we're trying to fix it).
  • The 20MDX uses both comma's ACC and comma's steering and can easily see stopped cars. Comma ACC also has an experimental mode that can see stoplights and stopsigns.

I haven't followed the 3rd party forks very carefully. But I believe at least one (or maybe both) of those support steering with ACC off. I think they try to pick up car support at least once a month, and they use pre-release comma software as their source so sometimes they support cars faster than official comma software does.

Definitely not selling it; MDXs aren't on its supported cars list, although some Pilots are. It's open source (meaning everyone has access to the code), so it wouldn't be that unlikely that someone else modified the pilot's code to be used on the MDX as encouraged on their website.

Your post mostly looks like you are selling it . (Just like other forums. Never heard of it. Post drumming up interest of their own product) Apologies if not but that’s what it looks like.

It’s not like you bought it and are sharing your results . The video itself really doesn’t do much more than the Honda /Acura active cruise control with steering setting on. You never explained why this is somehow better and why anyone in here should be actively engaged in trying it.

Of course no one in here has tried some black box raspberry pi controller.

The only thing I can say after watching it is at least it has a disengage when pressing the brake. That’s a lot of trust in a 3rd party box if that brake switch fails. Hopefully the power can be yanked out as a secondary way of turning off it it starts driving you into a wall.

Most definetly not promoting it. It's not compatible with the MDX, although because its an open source project, (meaning the code is pubicly availble) anyone can add code to it to make it compatible as encourged by their website. For example the OP showed a video of it working with a 2018 MDX which isn't on the compatiblity list. It has a pretty large comunity and is a bit far from a "black box raspberry pi controller". All of these cars are offically compatible.

Also, the 2014-2020 MDX is also community supported. It requires a community-manufactured add-on board because these years did not use canbus for LKAS (they used lin bus instead). The board translates lin bus for comma, and I purchased one to use my 20MDX. I've driven thousands of miles as well on the 20MDX and it works well, and am aware of a few other owners who have done the same for years. Because the board is not manufactured by comma, they will never officially support 2014-2020 MDXs.

The current gap in comma support is 2022-2024. I'm in active development with a 22 owner to try and get support working for these model years. It doesn't appear to need any special hardware according to the Acura service manuals, but won't know for sure until we get it working. If no add-on hardware is needed, we can eventually put this code in queue for comma official support too.

Official compatibility for the base (3.5L) 25MDX was approved for the next release of official comma software in a week or two. Their web now lists it as a supported model.

This DOES NOT include the typeS model. I have a 25mdx typeS rental and it has all different wiring so am still trying to figure it out. The TypeS has the new multi radar (front cross traffic, lane change assist, etc) so it was not a clone of the base.

I would expect the 24 Type S and 24 base to have the same wiring as any 2022-2024 model. The press releases show identical Acurawatch specs across all trims of those 3 years. I have not yet gotten those models to work, as the only driver who has tried recently seems to have tugged/broken a wire in their wiring adapter. If you want to try, comma has a 30 day return policy and will extend it to 60 days if you say you're trying to get a new car working. I can work with you via DM if you're interested.

The 25 press release specifically says there are brand new Acurawatch capabilities only in the TypeS, so I'm not surprised that it has new/different wiring from the base.

Happy to add report we have our first 22 MDX Type S working with Comma. Will proceed to work with Comma to get official support, at this point any 22-24 should be unofficially supportable. So now every MDX with ACC should now work, except the 25+26 Type S.
