Good news..!! What resistor brand/values did you end up using for the rears..? How is the ride, do you feel the different shock tuning differences between the front and rear areas? thanks for posting your results..

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input on this. I swapped out my rears with KYBs. One lower bolt was rusted to the shock sleeve and I ended up cutting it off. What a PITA. But it is done now and I don't have any warning lights so far!!

I used the Radio Shack ones posted earlier in this thread. Be aware they come in pairs. I bought 5 in case the fronts went south and ended up with 10.

I really can't tell any difference in the ride. I have kept it in sport mode and have only driven to work so far. One rear shock was leaking and the other looked to be ok.

Update: We took this on a decent road trip last weekend and I can tell a noticeable difference. The cars seems much more composed on the highway. Around town not a big difference but definitely more stable at higher speeds. This is just replacing the rear shocks. Still no warning lights! :29:

I assume you used the 1-ohm 10-watt resistors?

Got it. I have lined up a local mechanic to do the swap. He will have to do the spring swap. Should I care? I was already quoted for the labor and he said to just order the KYB replacements for all around and he would do it.

I don't know how much extra work it is to fit in the aftermarket ones vs the acura full assembly. So, I don't want to screw the guy over and make him stick to his estimate if he doesn't know he will have to re-use the springs....

Did your mechanic manage to swap only the struts, or did he have to get some other parts to complete the front change from ADS to Base Model?

Update: The ADS light has come on a couple of times while I have been driving in Sport mode. It resets when I start the car again and I can drive around with the light off for a while. I am waiting to see if this will become more frequent or not. Right now I can live with it.

Sport mode might be your issue.

Have you had any trouble with the ADS light since mid-August when you installed the 5.5 ohm, 10 watt resistor? I will be doing my front strut assemblies in the next 2 weeks, and if yours has worked, I will also use the 5.5 ohm resistor.

I have been using the 2 ohm 10 watt resistor on the rears for about a year now, with no problems in Comfort setting. Sport will show an ADS light, but Comfort will eventually put it out.

I tried:

2.2ohm 10 Watts/front
5 ohm 10 Watts/Rear

1 ohm 10 Watts/ front & rear

Pretty much any combo that people in this thread used, but my light just doesnt want to go off. :(
From what I see, you need to have 5/+ for the FRONT, 1/2 REAR is fine.
See which Comfort/Sport mode works for you to keep the light off.

I did my Fronts only, but currently only have 1Ohm, that I decided not to install, because I know the light might stay on....I didn't purchase 5Ohm+ yet.

I bought my SUV off a dealership a couple of years ago, and all four of my shocks/struts are having issues. Do you think Acura Canada would help? I have an 07 MDX with 127K Kms. Stressed out with the impending cost!!

I dont think ANY car maker will help with a car that has 127K miles. Average regular shocks should only last 80K miles before replacement only thing is they are cheaper then sport shocks.

no leaking on my low miles 2009 MDX, but bushing are noisy!! i felt something is lose at the rear now and making some light clunk noise and i am afraid it's the shocks... i found it's very odd that there is no aftermarket replacement for sports shock.

I do put bike rack and roof rack/box on the MDX, i think i will go with regular shock when it's time to replace the original sport shock.

Hi I have to put lots of stuff in the trunk of my MDX and I have a ADS problem with a rear shock and I would like to put all 4 new shocks but regular ones and was wondering if it was as good so that the rear doesn't go down too much?
If sport model can handle whatever you put in trunk i dont see why regular mdx would not be able to handle same. I dont think sport model is higher etc.
