ABS, VSA, SH-AWD Lights ON

Just got the aforementioned lights on the dash. Checked for codes using a Foxwell NT650… and none were prompted. Looked at Live Data for ABS and showed Front Right & Rear Right speed sensor not responding during a drive. Also noted Brake Switch not responding…

I don’t believe all 3 items can go bad at the same time…. So I did a continuity test on the ABS sensors and confirmed FR & RR have NO continuity. Also swapped the brake switch with a known good part, and still shows NO response on the Foxwell Scanner.

Could this be part of a bigger problem..

Check rear fusebox and driver side fusebox for water damage

if it is not ABS sensors, or wiring i would check ABS module. But my guess it is wiring issues. Trace wires first...

Thanks Dzionnassi…

I checked the Service Manual. Looks like all the wheel sensors get their ground and signal from the VSA Modulator Control Unit. Since there is response from Driverside speed sensors, the VSA Unit is good…

The fact that I‘m getting NO continuity from the sensors must mean the Passenger side sensors are the fault… We shall see once I replaced the sensors this weekend if this is the true fix.

Also, the Brake Pedal Position Switch is on a different leg that connects to the PCM….so NO relation to the Speed Sensors at all…

Will update soon….

I hear you! It’s extremely strange the Foxwell showed 3 faults: brake switch & both passenger side speed sensors not working…

What’s really strange was I also jumped 4 & 9 pins on the OBD2 port to read the ABS DTCs and I got code 17 for ABS, which pointed to Driverside REAR Wheel Speed sensor…

That prompted me to do the Resistance & Continuity Test on all the ABS Speed Sensors to get to the aforementioned results….

where you measuring sensor, at sensor connector?

Update: Replaced the rear passenger side speed sensor and ran Live Data on Foxwell NT650. Still getting NO response from the newly installed sensor. Thinking Foxwell scanner Live data is wrong.

I remembered performing the ABS diagnostic procedure thru jumping pins 4 & 9 on the OBD2 connector and showing code 17 (fault with driver side rear speed sensor).

With that said, I replaced the driver side rear speed sensor and NO more ABS, SH-AWD & VSA lights on the dash…PROBLEM FIXED!!!

Lessons Learned:
1. when performing a resistance test on the ABS sensor itself, polarity matters in receiving accurate readings.
2. Foxwell NT650 was not accurate in providing ABS Live data.
3. Trust the OBD2 ABS Diagnostic test (jumping pins 4 & 9 on OBD2 connector)

Hoping this would help the next person….
have an autel... i can read the signal output of all the sensors.. i should have noted.. i replaced the original speed sensor and the problem didn't change.. then i thought to actually go to the live date mode.. where i am reading the sensor.... my suspicion is a vsa module but i would like to confirm it... i just don't know how.

It will be much helpful if you want to write a concise and logical post separately, with some pictures and background knowledge. Thanks
