2026 MDX Speculation

This is a little early to be looking to far ahead but the 2024 MDX was selling in summer of 2023. Is there any reliable news on what and when Honda plans for the MDX with engines and changes in 2026. Are PHEVs in MDX's future and if so would the smaller 3.0-liter V-6 be viable vs the 2.0 L 4-cylinder? The V6 would fit for those that would pull a trailer. Nothing to see of substance in the media thus far.

IDK? Acura seems to keep a 7 year cycle for the MDX with very minimum changes with the last 2-4 model years (adding 3rd gen Aspec, combining 4th gen ASpec/Adv, maybe adding electronic dampers/remote start/wood trim option, etc...). I'm not sure if Acura is counting the long run of the 22 model as 1 or 2? If Acura still keeps the 7 year model run might mean it will be 2029 and Acura might label it an early 2030 model? We might see 2.0T+hybrid w/ or w/o PHEV tech or V-6+hybrid for the 5th Gen MDX, maybe?

I guess I agree with you but the way the industry is changing so fast with EV & PHEV alternatives I hope Honda can adapt to the options quicker. Massive amounts of company $$ everytime there's a change. Don't really want to make the switch from my Acura MDX so it looks like it's a "just wait and see what's out there to pick from in the months ahead."

IMO the 2026 MDX will be pretty close to the 2025 model except for small tweaks and maybe some color changes.
  • The 1G MDX ran for 6 model years (2001-2006)
  • The 2G MDX ran for 7 model years (2007-2013)
  • The 3G MDX ran for 7 model years (2014-2020)
If the 4G runs for 7 model years, as @mrgold35 mentions above, then we're looking at a 4G life cycle of 2022-2028.

I think that coincides with Acura's rollout strategy of 2025 ADX, 2026 RSX EV, 2026/2027 RDX...

Honda said a 3row EV is coming 2027. I think they will keep the MDX unchanged for 2026, and then if the RSX sells well they will launch the 3row as an MDX for 2027.

If the RSX requires huge incentives to move (eg what happenned to the ZDX), then they will keep the MDX ICE for 2027 and the branding kids at Acura who have no respect for historical badges will call the 2027 3row EV the Acura Legend.

(Still bitter that the RSX was not reserved for the Acura-fied Prelude).
