All I can think of is to put polyurethane shims (hopefully the same shape as the strut top) between the strut top and the chassis to absorb some of the noise.

 

Small update. I spent a good amount of time driving the MDX this weekend, and I can confirm my hollow suspension noise is almost entirely from the right rear. I can hit a manhole cover on the right side and it pops, and then hit the same manhole cover on the left side and it sounds normal. So I'm thinking there is something not right with some component on that side.

I had the same issue here in Orlando and they changed the right rear shocks. It's better now!

 

I have the same issue and I took my truck to the dealer ( Peabody, MA) and they told my that my brand new truck came with a defected shock and solver. They fixed and the rattling sound is a little better. But I still hear some noise.

 

I have a '14 MDX. My "clunk" occurs mostly at very low speeds and usually from a resting position. I think it must be the rear parking brake assembly. Will take it to the dealer this week and hopefully get an answer. Will post my experience soon. Thanks for all the detailed comments.

 

I'm driving a 2016 MDX loaner with the clunking rear suspension issue. Very disappointing.

 

You guys with the clunk, do you have the 3rd row up or down? I occasionally get a reverberating noise over harsh road imperfections, but I figured out it was the 3rd row headrest.

 

My 3rd row is always down. Never used it yet. When does yours NOT clunk? 3rd row down or up?

 

I have confirmed that additional reverberation is caused by the backrest of the passenger side of the 2nd row seats (the small seciton). You can adjust your rearview mirror and see it when you passover a bump! If you lay the backrest down, the reverberation goes away. I am looking for a window in my calendar to take it to the dealer. This should not be happening!
