What's the thought on when to get an oil change? I'm at about 4,000 miles. Car says oil only at 50%. I always roughly followed the 3 months/3,000-4,000 mile rule before but not sure what to do here. Thoughts?

Follow the MID Or 1 year. Doesn’t matter if keeping or getting rid of it in 3 years.

I've never had a single problem with an oil change at a dealer or garage.

I have a hybrid. They have overfilled it twice. At least. Now I double check. 2 times ago, I had to drive back an hour to have them fix it. Now I check before I leave the dealer.

Funny, just today I said I wouldn’t let a dealer change my oil if they paid me $100.

In 35 + years, a dozen and a half rigs and over a couple million miles, a dealer changed my oil exactly once. They stripped out three of four bolts on the skid plate (a 4Runner) as a bonus parting gift. Folks getting paid $15/hr that get in trouble if they spend more that 12 minutes changing oil on my $20-50k rig, will not/can not take the same care I will. No one cares more about doing something correctly on a car than the person that worked to buy it.

You must drive a lot.
