For those that still use the factory navigation like me, new map update '2021.12.14' has been released

Downloading as we speak....super slow...

Your are spot on with the ... super slow! I am in the middle of the download now and only have about 25% after 20 minutes. Its going to be a long wait. Hope the update is worth it. I did notice the acura.com page said there might be 3 or 4 updates a year for the map. So I think after this download I may just wait out the next coup of downloads .. as I do not travel that much to make the updated map super critical to the "operation." This will be the second update since I purchased my 2022 MDX in March (Feb build). The last update, I did a month ago, was for the 2021 Oct. update. Don't know why my MDX did not come with current maps. Anyway that update was really very easy. Download and upload to MDX took no time at all. This 2012.12.14 will be a little longer I feel. Thanks for posting the release-- hope you do not have problems in uploading the data.

Thanks, Rafale, for the heads up!

For those (like me) who forgot how to update the nav maps, you have to do it through a USB device (flash drive, etc). You can download the maps to the USB device on your computer by going to the Acura nav website here. After waiting several hours for the download to complete* , plug the USB device into the car to do the nav update.

*The download just took me three and a half hours, which is about 15 minutes longer than last time. Of course, time elapsed depends on the speed of your internet connection, your USB device, etc. The upload to the car took 60-70 minutes, same as last time.

Rafale, How did you discover the new version release? I don't have any notice from Acura?

Me too... Now to upload it

Do they still charge for the map updates like they do for the 3rd gen?

I've never purchased an update for my 2014 so my maps are at least 10 years old but still work for 99% of the roads.

If they still charge for updates, why not just use the smartphone maps with Carplay/AA? Is there a reason you prefer the built-in map?

Smjr, How did you find out? I have NOT received any notice ?

Doing the Download now. The Downloader saw the older version on my scan Disc , asks to delete it and download the newer version.

This new update downloaded quickly, but seems to be taking forever to upload?

Did you update with engine running or with the MDX in accessory mode or with the ignition on but the engine off? One time I updated with MDX in accessory mode and 3/4s of the way through the update the system shut off and I had to start over again. The second attempt I just drove around for an hour. Would have been cheaper I guess to just park and run the engine. But that would have been boring. Maybe watch netflix on the iPad?

I just installed 2022.04.12 Each time, the upload from the flash drive takes about an hour. This time, the download to the flash drive on my computer took about twice as long - because I was streaming a baseball game at the same time. Which is just more confirmation that the download speed is a function of your internet connection, bandwidth, etc.

Contrary to some posters, I do use the Cars Navi. Find it to be quite good and easy to use. Tell Alexa to find something and works seamlessly to The NAVI Sys. Yes, no speed Cameras and the Goodies on WAZE. But I have found lately that WAZE keeps rebooting [disconnects and reconnects] while I'm driving. I deleted the program and reinstalled it, to no avail. Not sure if It's my Google PIXEL 4XL phone or not? Maybe someone can advise?

My update to the car after download took 42 minutes. I just happened to be in traffic and waiting at a couple of drive ups and then it said it was done. Restarted the car and checked help in nav which shows it is updated. Just as an aside, I downloaded loaded the update twice (two different identical USB drives). First one during the day took 9+ hours. Second one during the evening took 4:30.

@JandS, I believe that if you don’t complete the map update, that it must start over from the beginning each time. Thus, taking short trips of 10-20 minutes won’t complete the update. Also, you will only see the update message if you start out on the navigation screen.

You either need to drive it for a longer period, up to an hour, to get it to complete or leave the car on long enough that it will complete.
