While having the steering rack and tie-rod nuts replaced under warranty due to a creaking sound coming from the front suspension. The service advisor notified me that the Type-S has some hidden maintenance costs that we'll be encountering down the road. The 3 things he brought to light are brake pads for the Brembos are very expensive, which okay they're Brembos their going to be more expensive that standard MDX pads. What cought me by surprise is, according to him the brake rotors can not be turned, so, if worn or damaged they can only be completely replaced, and again very expensive. He didn't quote a cost but my experience is if a service advisor says something is expensive its typically ridiculously expensive. The other thing he mentioned was the Type-S battery located in the rear fender-well is "special" and cost $700 ???? Has anybody here replaced brakes or batteries on their Type-S yet. Are these costs real or just a service advisor talking nonsense?
PS I just received a call notifying me the steering rack they just replaced is faulty and won't allow the steering position sensor to be set which in turn won't allow the ECU to clear the codes the car threw, making it impossible to drive the car over 40 mph. They have ordered another steering rack which should arrive sometime next week. I hope this isn't the start of electronic a gremlin problem. Will follow-up next week.
