Just picked up my 2025 MDX Type-S today. Lunar Silver Metallic. Looks great and has a little bit of a blue tint to it in low light. Coming from a 2019 Range Rover Sport SCV8, the drop from the V8 to the V6 turbo is noticeable, but the Type-S feels lighter and more maneuverable and has plenty of power. The tech in the MDX is way better than the Range Rover - the touchscreen is fantastic and fast to respond. Looking forward to driving this for the next few years.

Congrats … I bought the same car in 2024 … love the blue interior. Added a real spare tire, a factory tow hitch and a hand painted discrete red/black pin stripe. I also debadged everything except the Thpe S emblems… really cleaned it up.

Fwiw, I traded out of a Cayenne S twin turbo, and also do miss the power of the Cayenne, albeit from a V6. But I did learn recently, that MDX can be tuned to add 80 whp… Berger has a unit that doesn’t require an ECU flash and which can be removed to protect the warranty.

This said, the Type S’s smooth delivery of power is adequate, particularly when programmed in Individual Mode to Sport setting with normal suspension settings. Enjoy your new ride … mine is about to have its first year birthday and I love it.

The RR SCV8 w/ 518hp was overkill for me. I didn't need it for towing or anything like that. The power was nice to have, but the gas mileage was tough, especially in the winter. I custom ordered it back in 2019 - the plan was always to keep it for 6 years. I bought the extended warranty at the time when I was commuting 60 miles a day, to get me to 100k miles, but with COVID and work from home I only ended up putting 58,000 miles on it. The warranty runs out in 4 weeks, and I wasn't going to own one with no warranty. I got lucky - I had no issues with the car during the 6 years. I will say that the dealer service was the worst I've experienced from any car brand. They called me a few weeks ago to trade it in and I told them I'd never buy another one. My wife loves them though.

I think the current Cayenne S went back to a V8? I've been looking around the Q8/Cayenne/MDX forums for the past several months getting ready for the next car. Lots of Q8/Cayenne issues with the new high-tech alternators. Every brand has issues. I feel like Acura is somewhat of a known quantity for me - between me and my wife we've had 4 of them, a 2003 TL Type-S, a 2005 RL, a 2006 RL, and a 2007 MDX. I left for Audi (A6 and A8) for a few years, then the RRS. The MDX is really nice - glad to be back.

This is my second Acura … had a 2019 MDX Aspec after a disastrous stint with a BMW x 5, which stranded us in central Montana with a totally preventable failed water pump. Had to drive to Minneapolis at 41mph to get it replaced as there was no beemer dealer in WY, MT, ND or SD. It was an epically bad experience.

Traded it for a low mileage loaded 2018 Cayenne S that had tons of issues and NO extended warranty. Fortunately my Indie kept me out of the poor-house. At 100k on the clock I looked at getting into a newer S, or a new S (V8) and decided to put the Porsche cards back in the box, and find something for long road trips that had a decent dealer network, good rep for reliability, an emergency 3rd row seat for our grand kids, and enough comfort and power to sate.

The new Type S checked all the boxes. The thing that’s bugging me is the red calipers, so I am going to have them painted by a local custom shop a navy color to match/coordinate w the blue interior … also will smoke the taillights a little more than they are stock and slightly tint the front windows (wife hates dark windows). Will change the stripe from black/red to black/blue.

Cars have always been problematic for me as it hard for me to find (and keep) the perfect one … 😉

The BMW X5 made me laugh (not at your situation). We were shopping for a new car for my wife back in 2007 - she was a huge BMW fan. She had owned two 3-series convertibles, then a 528i. She really wanted an X5 as she wanted an SUV. I found a nice, low-mileage CPO X5 4.4i and set up a test drive for her. I knew going in she would hate it because of the engine noise and the stiffer suspension. The salesperson "cooperated" by taking her on a test drive on rough side roads and the thing shook and rattled the whole time. She looked down her nose at Honda/Acura at the time, but I took her to see the MDX. She drove a new black MDX Touring w/Navigation and loved it. I'm pretty sure we got it for the same price or less than the two-year old X5. And she loved that MDX. When we eventually sold it, we had no shortage of buyers. Those were great cars and practically bulletproof. It cured her of her BMW obsession, but now she's moved on to Range Rovers so I'm not sure that's better. She's on her second full-size RR.

I love the red calipers on the Type-S. My RRS was basically the same setup - silver exterior with black accents, similar wheels, and red calipers. I have the black interior with the Type S. the RRS had a two-tone leather interior with off-white most places, but black on the seating surfaces and seat backs. It looked great but the white parts stained easily.

I've been the same with cars. The longest I've kept a car is 6 years - a 2006 RL and the 2019 RRS. Hopefully the Type S lasts that long for me.

That’s a great story … the X5 is a better car than it was in the previous gens. Rovers are nice; just can’t get comfy with Chinese ownership. Regarding red calipers, I had red calipers on two Porsches … a silver and black Boxster S and a silver and black 911 S … love the silver, black and red combo … my Type S has the Azurite Blue interior with while piping and top stitching. So I am going to scratch my OCD itch and have the calipers refinished in blue, the double pin stripe repainted in blue and the type S badges painted with blue instead of red ….😳….as I said earlier it’s a problem for me! 🤓
