While driving on a road trip, the check engine light came on and was flashing. I was going up a hill at that moment and could definitely feel a misfire and rough engine. After turning off the car and starting it again the light didn’t come back, but I can still feel a slightly rough idle (barely noticeable). I also noticed that my MPG on that drive was way lower than normal for the freeway at 14MPG and now driving mostly in a city it’s been at 11MPG.
Any ideas on what is going on? Does it seem weird that it had a big enough fault to trip the CEL but now it’s not? Maybe a weak coil that overheated after a few hours of driving? I’m going to pull the codes when I’m able to but my guess is it’ll show a misfire in one of the cylinders.
