offset is issue with basically all aftermarket wheels… stock is +55 and literally everything aftermarket is +45 or further out.
not sure if my write up in post #2 in the link below helps you. Seems like you understand offset pretty well.

Yeah those are good details... so basically a 21x9.5 +55 with 285/40R21's is the absolute largest combo you could get without hitting suspension on the inside and no poke. On a 8.5" wheel that puts max offset at roughly +42.3, or +48.6 on a 9" wheel for no poke. Soo knowing that... if I found a 20x9 +45 it would probably work out fine with the 3mm extra poke although a 20x8.5 +45 would be better. Are these wheels hubcentric? Prob gonna need rings for aftermarket, right?
Sounds like you’re on the right track. Most wheels are hubcentric these days, I’d be surprised if you got a set that wasn’t.

Looks stunning. Do u think a 265 45 21 will fit? Trying to get a bit more cushion without having to go with 285…
It’ll fit no problem. But when you’re speedometer reads 70mph, you’ll really be going 68.5 mph because of the diameter size difference. But if the extra cushion is important to you, then to each their own.

when i plug in the stock size of 255 50 20 versus 265 45 21 on the tire calculator/tacoma world at 70 mph, it states the actual speed is 70.8 (not too far off)... I think the difference in height/diameter is approximately 9mm. When I had my Durango SRT and went with 22" i kept the stock 295 size (width).... does the steering feel any 'heavier' with the 285 width? these tire prices though/lol
My apologies. I thought you were talking about in comparison to a stock 275/40R21 Type S. You are correct if comparing to the size you mentioned.

The steering wheel feels the same with 255 vs 285 on the A-Spec. No noticeable difference in ride or feel. The tires are brutally expensive with 285s!
