Hey, just wondering if anyone has replaced their ADS shocks for regular shocks due to $$$? In my case, my '07 Elite(sport) with 131,000 km's rear shocks are leaking & making a rattling sound at low speeds over bumps, but comparing the costs, cheapest being US$557 vs US$89., was curious if anyone has done it & if there's any issues?

Are you guys quoting the acura shock prices of $500 each? There are aftermarket brands you can install for MUCH cheaper. My Mech/buddy will be doing ours as the rears have faded and are bouncy, but his cost is $70 each and I think retail was $170... Yes, they are adjustable/magnetic for the sport model.
This is great news. I have been looking for aftermarket ADS magnetic fluid shocks. Can you get the brand name from your mechanic friend, and post it on this site.

Jim, what year is your vehicle? I just picked up a 2008 Elite. Do you go to dealership for service? I am planning to go to Silverhill although I have heard many good things about Hu's garage.
Mine is a 2007 Elite, that I bought about a year ago. I do go to the dealer for oil changes and a cat converter covered by warranty. Other than that I changed my own rear shocks to regular shocks, and am trying to find time to do the front strut assemblies.

Any news on the replacements if it's actually aftermarket ADS shocks? If so what's the brand, and where can we get them?

And for those who used the KYB rear shocks, where do you get them?? You can PM me if not allowed to post. Any help is appreciated since I need to replace both rear shocks and I rather just go with the standard ones.

I was just looking on EBay, and see basically the KYB 341075 (So I'm assuming they are interchangeable 1 for each side) and do you have to purchase anything else with that?? Like boots, or anything like that? I just want to make sure I get everything that I would need as I'm visiting the US next week and could order them. Thanks for all the help in advance.

The part description said electric adjustable MDX struts, but they weren't anything close to that.. just regular MDX struts. Sorry guys, I thought this was sport suspension salvation. Just dont think acura has released the suspension parts to anyone yet. :28:
That's what I thought... I am not aware of any aftermarket active struts for any other car brands either. The seems to only be able to make plain old struts.

Acura dealership have the both OEM front replacement ADS shocks on back order for my 11 MDX. Started getting a knocking noise over larger bumps and the tech found a torn boot on one front end-link (replaced both end-links on the front stabilizer bar). This fixed the knocking noise for about 7-10 days before it came back. They determined the knocking was from the shocks and I am still waiting after two weeks for them to come in. I am still under the basic warranty until Jan/15 or I would have considered the conversion to regular shocks.

Does anybody have the part numbers for the replacement shocks both
front and rear. I have the ADS system, but would like to switch to the base shocks. Sounds like using the whole assembly on the front is the way to go. Thanks in Advance.

The stock part numbers I could find for the non-Sport ADS system below:

Front

006 51601-STX-A06 SHOCK ABSORBER ASSY., R. FR.
007 51602-STX-A06 SHOCK ABSORBER ASSY., L. FR.

Rear

008 51605-STX-A05 SHOCK ABSORBER UNIT, R. FR.
009 51606-STX-A05 SHOCK ABSORBER UNIT, L. FR.

***SOLUTION ALSO FOUND***

Went from ADS to OEM non-ADS shocks, all four corners.

I used 1 ohm 10 watt "cerment power wirewound" resistors from Radio Shack and there is no warning light in either Comfort nor Sport mode, even after extended amounts of driving. Works on all four shocks.

They are like the ones in this link, even though I found them in a local store:

10W1D0 1 Ohm Cermet Power Wirewound Resistor : Resistors | RadioShack.com

I just plugged them directly into the terminals and wrapped it all up in a gracious amount of electrical tape, and hid everything out of sight.

One warning if you live in the salt belt. The lower bolt on my driver's rear shock was so rusted in, that the threaded bolt mount broke off of the control arm when trying to remove the bolt. Then it was another nightmare just trying to remove it out of the rusted shock sleeve. That mount has to be welded back onto the control arm. Not much could have avoided that, but that's life around these parts!

Hello everyone! I just got done performing the conversion and the overall process went smooth. The replacement took me a total of 8 hrs (rusty bolts I had to deal with). The ADS warning light came on after driving 3-5 minutes. I had to stop and restart the vehicle to reset the warning light and never came on since.

I would like to thank everyone that had provided all the helpful information! I will be loading the photos of this project soon.. Photos will consist of OEM parts invoice and the work I performed.

Great job..!! Thanks for taking the time to post the complete information to all the forum MDX'ers. It sure is going to help whoever decides not to install the advance oem dampers.

So you just installed 2007 OEM standard shocks and they fit perfectly on all the 2007-2011 advance models with dynamic dampers?

Did you have to install any additional hardware to make them fit besides the securing bolts?

Yes, this was a direct replacement to all four corners with no added hardware. :29:

Hello everyone.
I also did it!
Once I did differently. Connected to the wires that are suitable for the ADS unit.

Hey guys....I live in Toronto, Canada, where can I buy (2)FRONT Strut(whole assembly, NON ADS)?
Any aftermarket brand(Kyb, Monroe, etc)....direct links would be nice.
I did read every post, just in case i missed anything...does aftermarket need any other parts? I see the Acura standard is straight bolt on.

Please give prices, possibly a website or store.

I called an Acura dealer, and was quoted between $330-350 each. Fronts.
If someone can clarify how much they paid from a dealer in Canada.

MDX already at the shop, only an aftermarket strut was ordered and delivered(not full assembly)....original ADS springs are too huge for aftermarket strut. Reason needing to locate a full assembly.

Thanks.

Ok, here it is.

I purchased the standard shocks from an Acura dealer in Toronto(Aurora), Canada, today... not in stock, but next day pick up.

51601-STX-A06 /R - $329.89

51602-STX-A06 /L - $317.02

I used to work for a Honda dealer a while back, so I received 10% off.
Total with tax + 10% off = $657.91....without discount = $731

My brother is a mechanic...$0

Brother tried to order the standard shocks from a different Acura his car shop deals with....and the parts manager refused to sell him the parts, stating that it is not the correct part for said car and would be deemed not safe, and he wants no part of it. So I had to try a different Acura.

Now I have to try and locate the resistors...Will check The Source(radio shack).

I have two bad front shocks and Acura Canada will pay for the shocks while I pay for the labor and the wheel alignment. Not a bad deal, considering that the warranty expired almost a year ago, but still low mileage. If I had to pay, I think the quote was around $2200 for parts and labor vs. $400 that I am expected to pay now with Acura's goodwill helping out.

I don't think I will get ADS shocks again as the potential future replacement cost is a bit too much.

I am having a tough time locating resistors now.
I tried the Source(formerly radio shack), they stopped carrying them 4 months ago. Did quite a few different searches.

Does anyone know where I can try? preferably a store, Toronto area.
I know that my last resort might have to be an online order.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

To the few that installed resistors for the Front ADS....which ohm or watt seems to be working for you?

I might have found a storefront I can go into, when I need to purchase the resistors in Canada. Just need to make sure which ones are basically working properly, as i see a few are having issues with the fronts.

Looks like page 4 under resistors category shows R.
Undecided about 1.5...2....2.2 or 5ohm - 10watt.
SAYAL - RESISTORS - 10/6/2014 2:40:42 AM

But then a search within Sayal "res 10w", shows 1.5K etc
http://www.sayal.com/zinc/zinc_SEARCH.asp?txtSEARCH=res+10w&x=-1100&y=-27

So is it R or K we need? and how much resistance 5% or 10%?

Thanks.
