After hours of searching this site and a couple others I've not been able to find the location of the HFL module. I can tell you where it is on TLs and 2007 and above MDXs, but not a 2006.

Can anyone tell me where it is located and if it is known the P/N?

I spoke to the folks at HFL and they suggested unplugging and replugging the module in hopes of solving my problem. They also said that a dealer could reset the system. I don't know if there is a way to do it myself.

All help is appreciated.

My problem is like that of others...no response from the HFL button on the steering wheel. When pulled nothing happens...doesn't mute the radio for commands.

Thank you....

It worked....thanks to all who helped.

Do to the kindness of strangers I've been able to successfully DIY my HFL issue.

Even though others weren't successful by simply unplugging and replugging the HFL unit, it worked for me.

I unplugged the HFL unit and ran the Nav diagnostics...it showed all systems ok (green) except the HFL (red). I turned off the vehicle and after 10 minutes I reconnected the HFL and started the engine and tried the talk button and it worked.

Of course when I tried to give it a command it didn't work because I hadn't yet connected the light/mic/on-star cluster. Once connected we were back in business.

Not having cash for repair of this type of luxury item I was pleased and grateful for everyone's help and a working HFL.

Now if I could get the photo links to work for the rear AC transistor replacement I'll be set.

Thanks again everyone.

Are you asking if that is the HFL? No it is not. I haven't removed that circuit board but I believe that is toward the rear of the car from the HFL board. The HFL is the very front part of the overhead console toward the windshield, behind the grey (or tan) cover. The only thing in front of it is the black box on the window that controls the auto wipers if you have that.

The HFL circuit board comes out in that grey (or tan) case, and then you have to remove it from the case and replace the case.

In an 06, the HFL is in the overhead console inside a black plastic cover. I’ve replaced it and looks like the one in the circuit board in the picture. Now, there might be other HFL components located elsewhere but the board that’s usually the topic of these posts is the one in the overhead console.

IMO, the HFL was pretty good back in the day but not needed if you have a newer phone and phone mount. I had a TL too but disconnected the HFL instead of replacing it when I had the battery drain issue.

Here is mine from an 06. The grey cover plate would be on the other side of the black case.

Note unless they changed the design, while it looks sorta similar the plug is a different size, there are no light bulbs mounted to it, and no accessories on the bottom like what looks like a switch popped onto the PCB in yours.
