Looking at a 2016 MDX as an upgrade to my 350,000 mile 2001 and saw a number of news articles about a couple of recalls for the transmission and controllers over possible leaks between tranny fluid and coolant, but when I check Acura's recall page I find no recalls what so ever for 2016 MDX's or for the specific VINs I'm considering. What gives?

Indeed, the 2016 models had several TSBs regarding the transmission operation.

I would suggest asking an Acura service department to check the VIN.

TSB 15-034 Product Update: Vehicle Shifts into Neutral and MIL Comes On with
DTC P0657

Dealer can check if you have the update.

TSB 15-039 Transmission End Cover Leaks (9-Speed A/T)
Applies only to vehicles leaking ATF from transmission end cover.

TSB 15-054 Transmission Function Improvements: Sensation of Surge While
Braking, Slow Downshift Response at Low Engine Speeds, and Other
Listed Symptoms

Specific VIN ranges listed in TSB.

TSB 17-009 Product Update: MDX 9-Speed Transmission Warmer
This is the "big one", imo. Definitely check with the dealer to see if this applies.

TSB 17-010 Product Update: MDX 9-Speed Transmission Warmer (Transmission
Previously Replaced for Transmission Warmer Leaking)

Check with the dealer to see if this applies.
