It was drisling last nignt and we were going up I287 at moderate speed. I observed that the wipers were not clearing the windshield properly. As the rain was light, I could see that they were leaving water streaks after the stroke.

Did anybody else notice this problem? I can't believe that the qulity of the rubber is so bad. My MDX is only 7 months old !!!

If anybody has some ideas on how to fix it (other than replacing it) please let me know...

This may be obvious, but I don't want to assume anything.

Have you cleaned your windshield with Windex or a specialty auto glass cleaner and a clean cotton towel?

Have you cleaned your wipers using rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton towel?

I personally hate the stuff, but some people swear by Rain-X; have you tried that?

your crazy. rain-x is the greatest stuff in the world (well, below zaino, but up there nonetheless). i even use it on the shower door and the windows on the outside of the house. and the headlights and taillights on the cars. my 82 year old neighbor was having trouble driving in the rain. i spritzed rain-x on half of her front windshield (drivers side of course). you would have thought she just had her first big-o with that look on her face. everybody that rides in our cars thinks that is the coolest stuff on the earth (wow! like star wars hyper speed; rain blitzin' up the windshield like that). BTW, they recommend changing wiper blades every 6 months. with rain-x, i barely turn on the wipers, never more than intermittent. it does leave a haze, but only until you get your first rain, or a good wipe-off with a cotton towel the next day. just my opinion, of course.

7 months is pretty typical for wipers made of regular old rubber whether on a Chevy or an Acura...got mine in March and replaced the blades in November.

There is another way, though. Use Rain-X brand washer fluid. I hate Rain-X normally, but this stuff is great. Regular Rain-X just wears off quickly, but this stuff gets reapplied everytime you wash the windshield with it. It has the effect of revitalizing the wipers. It is usually purple, but the winter/de-ice version out now is orange. Try it...I (almost) guarantee it will work for you. Make sure you use up all of your current fluid 1st, though.

11 Months - Switched to Bosch

After about 11 months I noticed my OEM blades were streaking bad enough to need a change. My Acura mechanic says that the Acura blades are made of very soft rubber to minimize the chance of scratching.
Based on suggestions here, I decided to go with the Bosch Microedge blades and I have noticed an immediate improvement in performance. Time will tell if they last longer.
If you haven't gotten blades yet, you will find that you need three different sizes (23" 21" and a 19" refill). The refill is for the back where the special blades housing precludes changing the holder assembly.
