White MDX accessories

The excitement is growing....have waited nearly 7 months. Will be getting a white X in about 2 weeks. Have received very valuable info. from this site...I check it 4-5 times a day (my wife thinks I'm nuts, she can't understand how overly excited I am about this vehicle...I feel I'm in good company with all you other MDX'ers. It's a shame that she will be the lucky one to be driving it most of the time.)

What are the must-have accessories that I should consider getting for the X? I've been debating whether to get running boards vs. side steps. Which is more functional and better looking on a White X? Is the installation fairly easy? I'm planning to get any accessories from Tim.

Congrates!! I'll recommend you look at following accessories:
- wheel lock, rear mud guard
(You may want to get these for free from your dealer)
- BSM: from Tim, very easy to install
- running board or side step or Manik side step
(Time consuming, but not complicated. See MANY previous discussion on this subject, could be very subjective issue.)
- trailer hithch for bike rack if you need it
- all weather floor mat (OEM or WT, both available from Tim)
- Cargo tray, net, liner or cover (depends on your need)
Hope this helps.
Lovin' my white MDX!

I think the absolute must-haves for the white MDX are the body side moulding and, the burlwood shiftknob. The BSMs enhance the look of the white, immensely. I also find the black leather shiftknob to look out of place in the saddle interior. As far as the steps go, I would recommend holding off a bit until you absolutely feel as if you need them. If they're not truly needed for entry/exit into the vehicle, I can't see spending the money.

Do a search on this site for posts (in the gallery section) from Marne. His white MDX has had so much added to it and you'll get a feel for how it'll look on yours. :D
Forgot to mention........

the rear mud guards! They help out a lot!

Buy from Tim....Install yourself (as I did) and save BIG bucks!
Marfong - We are waiting with you!

We are also awaiting the delivery of our white '02/touring. It was shipped 1/30, and I'm going crazy in these last few days! You aren't alone!:)
I got my white 188 1 month ago. If you want it to look like an awesome sporty SUV the must haves are running boards and the most overpriced but best looking add on is the rear tailgate deflector. The deflector in it's original black makes the MDX look tuff from behind and quarter angle.

The shift knob really dresses up the interior.

U-Haul trailer hitch (best price, easy to install and very well hidden)

all season mats and tray ( in black look very sporty next to the tan interior)

I put all my accesories on myself and none were even close to difficult so call tim (except trailer hitch) and make the order.
Creese,

Thanks for the info. Can you post a picture of the black rear deflector on your X? I was considering having it painted by Tim to match the white color.

Also, how did you get so lucky to get $500 off MSRP? What's did you have to do to get that? No dealer around here will do that. All X's are in short supply.
marfong,

I don't have a digital camera to take a picture but believe me it looks better in black on the white mdx. I have seen it both ways. besides if you don't like it you can always have it painted later.

I got $500. off from a dealer in Cinci. because they accepted a Sam's club membership discount. I was as surprised as you.
Check this pic (and more!)

Marfong: While I'm generally not self-promoting, but you should indeed look at Marne's Big White thread in the gallery. For one thing, you can look at how my painted white tailgate deflector looks, and get an idea of how it would look in its unpainted charcoal color. (Click here for that picture...)

As to must-have equipment, I agree with all of the suggestions above, but there is one not-yet-mentioned accessory which really looks great on a white 'X -- the FormFit hood deflector. As with all things, get it from Tim and install it yourself in 20 minutes.

Also, I think my chrome fender trim looks great on the white. I get lots of comments on it from passers-by.

I don't know where you are in Northern California, but if you ever plan to be in or near the wine country, send me a PM.

Good luck. The wait will be worth it!

Marne's pics.......

got me through MANY a day while waiting for my white MDX to arrive. It was actually the first pic of a white one that I saw! :D :D

Marne~
Don't worry about self-promotion. You're MDX is gorgeous! :D
JUST GOT MY VIN # FROM MY SALES REP....ONLY ABOUT 2 WEEKS LEFT FOR DELIVERY...YAHOOOOOO!

HAVE DECIDED TO GET THESE ACCESSORIES:
RUNNING BOARDS, WHEEL LOCKS, OEM FLOOR MATS, MUD GUARDS.

STILL THINKING ABOUT: BODY SIDE MOULDINGS---DO THESE TAKE AWAY FROM THE STYLING LINES OF THE X AND HOW MUCH PROCTECTION FROM DOOR DINGS?

REAR AIR DEFLECTOR--COSMETIC OR ANY PRACTICAL USE? BLACK OR WHITE COLORED--I'VE READ PREFERENCES FOR EITHER ONE.
(DOES THE BLACK MATCH BETTER WITH BLACK ROOF RACK)

FENDER FLARES--NOT SURE HOW THEY WOULD LOOK ON WHITE X.
ARE THEY EASY TO SELF-INSTALL?
Accessories

You can see from my profile below what I have on my X. Here are my comments.

BSM - I wasn't sure I would like them since the lines on the X are so clean, but was concerned about protecting my naked side panels. Once on, I've got no regrets - they look great and do protect against dings.

Stripe - Again, I liked the clean lines, but my dealer offered to put on a pin stripe for free. So I figured why not, I could take it off if I didn't like it. Again, it added a lot to the car; helping cover the 'minivan' image.

Next, I like how these things have really added to the car, so I'm seriously thinking about chrome side steps. At first, I was set on the running boards since the steps have more of an off road look to them. However, since the boards are black, they wouldn't show much and just wouldn't add to the look enough. From threads on the Manik steps, I've changed my mind.

Moonroof visor - from what I've read, it really helps the wind noise with the roof open. I've go no buffeting and I think it helps the look of the car too. Only negative is that it covers about a third of the moonroof.

Rear mud flaps. A no brainer - should have been standard.

Roof rack - I'm still debating whether to add. The OEM ones are useless and I'm not sure it will add much to the look of the car.

Fender flares - I'd only consider these if they were white and if I was going to be taking the X off road. Otherwise, in my opinion, they look overdone. (also, I don't like how the fuel fill cutout looks)

Rear 'spoiler' - I imagine this helps keep the back window clean by deflecting air over the glass. However, it just wasn't worth the money to me.

I think the std. shift nob looks fine in the saddle interior because there is black accents on the dash. Tan would be better, but not worth it to me to upgrade.

Dash panel - I've debated upgrading to match the wood. But again, I think it looks fine without it.

That's all that I've considered or done. Hope it helps.

side steps

Mr.Prescott,

Did you decide on which side steps to install? Just got a white X and decided to install black side steps, but not sure whether to go with the oem ones or Manik.
If I was interested in installing black steps, I'd probably go with running boards instead. I think they are more fitting for the 'town car' look of the MDX. However, if my heart was set on black side steps, I'd probably go with the Acura OEM steps. But, since I am still set on using 'chrome', I'd have to go with the Manik.

Still undecided . . . on spending the money.
