The front stereo amp is under the center console, to one side of the rear blower motor. The rear amp, which handles the subwoofer and the center rear tweeter, is in the subwoofer cavity. All sorts of things like this are covered in the electrical troubleshooting manual, available from www.helminc.com .
Easiest way to access it is.....

going through the passenger side of the center console. There is a removable carpeted panel that covers the bottom half of the center console. Once you get this open you will see 2 small amps attached to a metal bracket. Use a panel remover tool to make removal easier and to avoid damaging the panel, don't worry it's made out of plastic so it's not fragile or anything. Good luck.
isn't this site great? Ask and you get the answer.
Thanks a lot guy.
Now, time to check that JL Audio at e-bay. Or maybe the kenwood(cheaper)

I'm also waiting on your project's result. Don't forget to post it. I'm also inclining to get a panasonic 909 so I can play the DD/DTS surround in my X. Question--did you relocate the 12-volt power outlet where you panasonic is installed? How, where? Thanks a lot.
oh by the way, can anybody recommend a good 4 channel amp aside from JL AUdio 300/3. My budget is less than $400 excluding accesories. I'm looking at 40-70 watts RMS power, 4 ohms.

Thanks again

Just the info I've been looking for:D. Thanks a bunch to all who contributed!
For a 4 channel amp I would opt for...

MTX Thunder series. They have a 4 x 65 watts and 1 bridged channel for subs for about $ 299.00 retail or go for the 85 watt model for about $ 100.00 more. Alpine is always good for the money, PPI, Kicker for about the same price range. I was thinking of getting the MTX myself but stayed with the JL because it produces the same output power regardless of voltage.

We must have been seperated at birth. Our ideas seem to cross paths somehow. I was really considering the MTX due to the fact that my sorround sound amp 4 ch Rockford Fostgate(5 yrs old)just crapped out on me so I need a new amp. I really wanted to wait a little longer so I can get the JL but the RF developed some power supply problems. The MTX is a great brand and is cheaper than the JLs that's why I really considered getting it. Go for the MTX I highly recomend it. A lot of the sound competitors out there use MTX. Check the web you can find great deals on MTX amps. You can also consider the Rockford Fostgate amps if you do the installation yourself RF will warranty it's amp for 3 years and 5 years for a dealer install. The MTX warranty is up to 1 yr if self installed I think. If you have a local Good Guys or comparable store get an extended warranty but for $ 299.00 you're probably better off just buying a new one.
glad to find somebody who share the same interest.
I still havent found a JL Audio 300/4 less than $300 at e-bay.
Ill do a search of the MTX when I come back from vacation. we were gonna go to the NIagara this weekend but the snow just wasn;t willing to let us. So I'll just go to my sister's in Virginia. My first long drive with my MDX, just in time for my video nav conversion to play my PS2.
Thanks for your ideas
