I've read through a lot of literature and forums and haven't seen it listed anywhere. Does it have a Honda acronym or something?

Multi-Dimensional Cross-Terrain vehicle would make a little more sense than Cross-Trainer. That sounds like it should have little outboard wheels on it.

Maybe the answers will reveal the true meaning of the MDX.
As far as I know..

TL = Touring Luxury
CL = Contemporary Luxury
RL = Refined Luxury
NSX = New SportsCar Experiment (I know, it's stupid)
EL = Economic Luxury (Canada Only)
RSX = ??

What's in a name?

TL CL RL and MDX. I thought it was just a bunch of nonsense letters. Does it have to mean anything?
The way I heard it was that Honda/Acura wanted to strengthen the "Acura" brand name. By using names such as Legend, Vigor, Integra for so many years they would weaken the Acura name recognition. If you were asked what car you drive and say a Legend, some wouldn't immediately associate that with Acura.

But now when you say TL, RSX, etc..... The Acura name stands out as the brand and TL as the model line. And by adding the engine size designation such as 3.2TL creates the impression of a variety of choices within the Acura line.

And now I think the MDX has strenghten that position even further.
