Almost every car forum has this thread, I searched and didn't see one so here we go!

Usually this type of thread serves as the town square of the model forum.

Today I got my Type S back from ceramic coating, tint and xpel installation.

  • 35% legal MA tint on the drivers windows
  • Air 80 on the full windshield, sunroof and all other windows
  • Xpel Ultimate on the full front bumper, headlights, mirror caps, and B/C pillars
  • Ceramic Pro coating on the entire car, wheels, interior carpet and leather.

Other mods that I have done:
  • Black chrome A and MDX badges
  • Type S side and rear de-badge
  • Black vinyl over the passenger airbag light
  • JB4 tuner

Toys arrived for the Aspec.

HUD and HUD switches. Not sure yet if this is all I need but everyone has been wondering for a while.

This is what I’m talking about! Definitely put this in a thread by itself! People are gonna wanna know how this plays out. Success or failure, you’re gonna help quite a few people out here!

Very excited to see if you can pull this off! Can you get your hands on an electrical diagram for the HUD switch? I’m interested to see the wiring location in the pin connector. I can’t imagine they’re the same, but maybe?

I know this is what did you do TODAY, but I have some catching up to do, so forgive me ;)

I'm an old member who has recently returned. We sold our 2009 MDX and purchased a 2023 MDX Advance in Lunar Silver two weeks ago. Since the purchase, I've done the following:
  • XPEL Ultimate PPF on the entire front of the car, including full hood and fenders. There are some issues with the install, so going back tomorrow for some fixes.
  • Tinted the front door windows to match the factory rear tint.
  • I didn't like the lack of coverage with the OEM all-weather mats, so swapped to Husky X-Act Contour mats.
  • Removed the MDX and SH-AWD badges and removed the black background on the Acura A emblem.
  • I've gathered the parts to do the full 5k towing package install, but haven't started working on that yet.
So far, we love the car, but dang it's got a lot of features
to learn about.

Just got the MDX back from the shop. Had the stock 21s painted gloss black and ceramic coated. Also installed the dark chrome emblems all around.

This past weekend I did a DIY install of the OEM hitch, trailer wiring, smaller HFA sensor, and ATF cooler on my 3 week old 2023 Advance. Overall, it wasn't too bad, although removing the front bumper was a little scary.

Those tips look great!! Did you diy or have a muffler shop do the install? Can you provide a link for the tips you used and any nuances to installing them? I really like the look and I'm interested in this mod for my A-Spec. Did it change the sound at all? I wouldn't think so but, just curious.

Thank you. I purchased the exhaust tips from eBay and had them installed by a muffler shop. As they are only exhaust tips, there is no change to the sound. You can find the link to the item below.

Thanks! It looks like the have one set left. I will get a quote from a muffler shop for the install. I assume they have to be welded into place?

They need to be welded. The muffler shop cut the pipe and adjusted it to fit properly.
I had my tire patched (michelin CC2) when they took the screw out it was 2.5in long! guy said I was lucky it didn't ruin the tire.
I received the 08P42-TYA-200 Cargo Area Protector set on Friday. Yesterday, I took a little time to install the 2nd row seat back protectors. I was pleasantly surprised to see the holes at the top that secure the protectors are square and designed to be fit beneath the plastic trim pieces the headrest supports go through. From the pics, I thought they might just cop out and the protector would just lay on top of the trim parts. By mounting below the trim pieces, the look is much cleaner and the protectors is better secured in place.

It's interesting how the velcro pieces that secure the protector to the flat seat back are installed. First, small hook material strips maybe 1/4" W x 2" L are covered by 1" W x 3" L loop material strips. On the back of the black loop material is a thin white film that is easily removed. Once you remove the white film, there is no adhesive on the back of the loop strip. So, I just removed the entire loop material leaving only the small strip of hook. The hook material adequately grabs the "carpet" (and I use the term loosely) on the back of the seats. The protectors are adequately secure and don't look too bad. I don't understand the purpose of shipping the large loop material strips stuck on top of them. Maybe as a form of protection?

Next, for any of you that have the OEM (unimpressive thin plastic) foldable cargo protector, you know they have channels to help provide some structural stability and to help it lay flat. The 2nd row seat protectors match this design. Guess where the velcro hook strips are attached? Yep, in the recessed areas with respect to the seat back! While they still grab adequately, these clearly should be mounted on raised surfaces that make direct contact with the seat back.

I haven't installed the side protectors as I wait for Amazon to deliver the velcro hook strips to my office today. Of course I never even considered drilling 16 - 1/8" diameter holes in the interior trim as per the instructions. Somebody was smoking something good when they came up with that design. Wow. I believe velcro hook material squares of about 2" x 2" placed strategically on the back of the side covers will secure them just fine without causing permanent damage to the interior of the car. Which, is what I am trying to avoid by installing them. So, the cargo protector is probably fine if you just ignore the installation instructions and utilize the benefit of the formed plastic parts.

Finished the job...no drilling.

I attached 2" x 2" squares of self-adhesive velcro hook material to the back of the side cargo protectors and they are solid. The hook material I used is extremely aggressive in the "fuzz" posing as carpet in the back of the MDX. I gave the engineers at Acura some credit and assumed the clip locations made some sense and put the velcro mostly on the back of the round snap caps. It would have looked much better without these round snap caps but, hey, it works. It would have saved considerable cost to simply have manufactured with velcro instead of these elaborate clips that require drilling 1/8" diameter holes in the interior trim. I can't imagine what they were thinking. Terrible design.

Another huge advantage to using velcro is the ability to remove things quickly if on some occasion we have passengers in the 3rd row. Just grab the protectors and pull them out. Back to original and good as new.

Ya, it was a piece of cake with the velcro. As I mentioned, the stuff I used for the floor protector to keep it from sliding around ultimately released. The adhesive didn't hold. It was old and that may have been the problem. I bought this Velcro on Amazon and it seems incredibly strong. The hook side digs into the fuzz on the sides like an Alabama tick. It was really cheap. Like $6 for enough to have installed it twice with some leftover. Good luck.

I'm having this done at the dealership tomorrow. Is it still easy enough to fold up and access the third row if they are installed (drilled?) To spec? Thank you in advance!
I installed them yesterday with velcro similar to Euro. Should be no issue using the third row, but I did not want them permanently installed. They do cover the access to the armrest storage bins.
Velcro holds well, but I did need to use some glue to ensure a better bond to the protectors.
Another benefit of the protector is that there is far less movement of the cargo tray.
