Almost every car forum has this thread, I searched and didn't see one so here we go!

Usually this type of thread serves as the town square of the model forum.

Today I got my Type S back from ceramic coating, tint and xpel installation.

  • 35% legal MA tint on the drivers windows
  • Air 80 on the full windshield, sunroof and all other windows
  • Xpel Ultimate on the full front bumper, headlights, mirror caps, and B/C pillars
  • Ceramic Pro coating on the entire car, wheels, interior carpet and leather.

Other mods that I have done:
  • Black chrome A and MDX badges
  • Type S side and rear de-badge
  • Black vinyl over the passenger airbag light
  • JB4 tuner

Nice!

Town square?
Post about things you did to/with your car and discuss instead of making a new thread each time for little things.

Installed an Exoshield windshield film.
No issues with clarity or HUD distortion

I hate going through windshield replacement so hopefully this was not money down the drain

Quite a few MA folks on here - kind of cool to see. We should select a car show at some point in the future and meet up. Glad to see a thread that captures the enthusiast side of things and not just complaints (there’s a lot to complain about to - I completely understand).

Got my MDX back in July of last year just as everything was going bonkers - but still got a damn good deal on it. It has been a labor of love since - all work has been completed by me except for the remote start, heated wheel, tint, and PPF. Everything I’ve done so far:

Accessories/Package Add-ons
  • Black Premium Plus Package (Remote Start, Black Roof Rails, HFA Sensor/Attachment)
  • Premium Sports A-Spec Package (Heated Steering Wheel, All Emblems Dark Chrome, Black Chrome Lug Nuts, A-Spec Premium floor mat)
  • Illumination Plus Package (A-Spec Illuminated Door Sills, Cargo Sill Trim, Welcome Lights)
  • Running Boards
  • Cargo Net
  • All season A-Spec floor mats
  • A-Mark Floor Light Projectors
  • Lower Lip Trims (didn’t end up installing the rear ones)
  • 21” Type S shark gray wheels wrapped in 285s
  • 35% Tint
  • Xpel PPF

Custom Work
  • Replaced grill surround with color matched
  • Replaced Matte A-Spec grille with gloss black Tech trim grille
  • Custom mount A-Spec badge on the grille
  • Wrapped front lower lip in matte black to match black plastic trim
  • Added Advance Ambient lighting to door pockets, front dash, and center console
  • Custom mounted the welcome lights under the running boards so they would still work

Work to be done
- Ordered a Type S “diffuser“ with the smaller exhaust cutouts so the quad tips will look a little cleaner (it’s on backorder until 2028…haha)

Just got done with my first pass of a ceramic wax last weekend. Will do another pass today or tomorrow if time permits. I will also try and get pictures once some sunshine comes out. Most of these pics below were taken back in March:

Killer ride and love all you've done with it! I'd definitely be down for a meet up at some point.

I also wholeheartedly agree this thread should be a discussion about how much we like our cars. Invariably we will discuss fixing any issues we have, but the complainers can take it elsewhere...

Hey, thanks man!

Yeah, I come from the car days of the 90s and 00s. Back when car culture was a real thing and enthusiasts and forum boards were all the rage - people could build and tune a car w/o needing laptops. I see this forum more of a common spot for people to get their questions answered with enthusiasts sprinkled in every now and then. But it’s not what i remember back in the heyday of car culture.

Still nice to meet like-minded individuals every now and then. I love what Acura is trying to do - tighten up that panel tolerance and QA and I really think Acura will be a brand that speaks to enthusiasts.

I say pick a car show, or if you know of any coffee meets, I’m down.

It's kinda wild coming here from the gti forum, this place is a ghost town compared to the number of enthusiasts running 4, 5 and 600hp GTI and R builds in that forum and busy as all hell.

Still this forum will grow a lot, it's still very early for the model and not many people actually have these cars yet. This is slowing down the amount of aftermarket mods available as well.
Props for you folks making your Apex Blue Pearl MDX's shine so brightly!
@IanCH @Chazzy J - I swear absolutely beautiful. IMHO Apex Blue Pearl is the best reason to get an MDX. Love it!

I’d be interested in your ceramic wax thoughts, have you posted anywhere about that? The detailing forum here seems to be dead. I’ve considered taking mine for ceramic coating but am old school do it yourself. I’ve prioritized cleaning out my garage to get mine in out of the sun for the moment.
Washed it and topped it off with Gyeon Wet Coat. Id take some pics but its kinda cloudy out, threatening rain. I will get some tomorrow, she's going to sit til then.

So this is a me-thing purely subjective among my own thoughts and very little factual detail behind it regarding ceramic and waxing:

For me, I did the hybrid ceramic wax to stay on top of my obsession with the Apex Blue - I love it a little too much (i.e. prone to swirls). So far it’s worked marvelously. I get the me-time, and the finished product really is a notch above what it looks like w/o wax. I’ve tried A LOT of different waxes. I can’t really say the hybrid Ceramic looks any better than any other top notch wax. I do feel like it goes on more uniform for sure. It buffs nicely, and does a fantastic job of minimizing swirls in direct sunlight. I’ll continue to use it, but I honestly think it‘s more wax than it is ceramic - just fun marketing for the suppliers that do make it. Graphene is a fun word to say too.

So I wouldn’t expect any earth shattering results over what a really nice traditional wax can deliver, but I absolutely noticed better uniform application of it over other waxes I have used. A ceramic wax and ceramic coating are still two different things. But I’ve seen plenty of folks with a ceramic coating that still complain if they love their paint too much, it swirls - maybe less than it would, but it still swirls with too much love.

For people like my wife who washes her TLX maybe once a month, a ceramic coating is perfect. For people like me who love my paint nearly daily, I still believe waxes are going to be the best thing for me.

Keeping it out of the sun is the top thing you can do to protect the finish. The sun just eats through any wax. Where I live it rarely rains but the sun shines almost all the time. If I leave a car in the garage or under a car cover the wax lasts seemingly forever but if I leave it outside exposed to the sun the wax really doesn't last long. Unfortunately I already have 2 cars in the garage that I care more about than the MDX so the MDX sits outside and my wife has a difficult time covering it so it's exposed the whole time. My MDX is now 9 years old and the finish has held up great but the wax (I hand wax it myself) certainly doesn't last very long. I haven't tried a ceramic coating.

That’s what I realized a week ago, that garage is best. I’ve had my MDX 8 weeks now. At first I was fretting about waxes or getting a ceramic coating, but overwhelmed by what I suspect is mostly marketing on both sides. My driveway is on the south side of the house and has no shade, full sun all day, which makes it hard to find a cloudy enough day to wash and wax. Previous owners converted 1 and 1/3 of a 3 car garage to a glamorous mud room and fully finished the basement so we have barely any storage space. I’ve built enough overhead garage storage to get it somewhat organized and was able to trial fit the MDX in yesterday. Now need to build a platform over the hood for more storage and then will be ready for the MDX. I realize putting it in the garage will save the wax, paint and keep it so much cleaner that maybe ceramic coating won’t be needed and money is better spent on PPF the front end , like @Chazzy J has done.
Nice work! I kept it pretty simple today and just added some more bass to the stock system.
