WOW

very impressive spec's but I didn't see a navagation system, but the radio and other spec's were very exciting. Everyone saw the excitement over the MDX and they want to get a piece of the market. Acura better watch out and get a little more customer friendly. No more above msrp for next year!!!

The Volvo SUV

You know what guys...I test drove the vehicle and am totally NOT impress. It is fast, it handles well in curvy roads but the seats and the ride is SOOOOO uncomfortable its not even funny.

There are NO leg room for the third row seats. Accessories and gadgets are nice novelties in that vehicle. First rate craftsmanship. Volvo have e"volv"ed a lot.

The engine is rather LOUD. Almost diesel TRUCK like. The bi-xenon lighting system is nice. The night vision is a JOKE! I think they should stop competing with Cadillac on this. Let Cadillac do what they do BEST and that is high end gadgetries.

Let see...what else...Well...All I can say is I hate to be stuck in traffic in that vehicle. The seats are bad, the turning radius is horrible, the interior noise of that vehicle is TOOO loud. I was thinking bout buying it but...I have changed my mind

Not quite sure how you came to test drive a car that's not out until the fall, unless you were referring to the Volvo Cross Country of course. Also, the turning circle is almost identical to the MDX’s so how can you say the “turning radius is horrible”?

I had an XC rental in Boston a couple of weeks back and found the seats to be extremely comfortable, as they have been in other Volvo’s I’ve driven. Probably a lot safer sitting in a volvo seat too.

The engine is actually quite smooth and free revving. Being a five-cylinder configuration, the firing order does have a slightly offbeat V8 sound to it compared with the Acura V6 but the acceleration feels stronger, especially during overtaking. And in my opinion it was also slightly quieter than the MDX. That’s not to say I think it’s a better car mind you…

NOPE it is not the XC crosscountry volvo station wagon it is the X90 SUV. I had a chance to drive at the San Diego International Auto show when one of the Volvo VP that I know what there representing the Southern California Dealers. He had a silver one that he drove. Trust me..it is NOT that impressive.

I've spotted seemingly contradictory posts from you on the Volvo X90, one saying you were going to sell one of your cars and buy it and this thread that it is unimpressive. Am I missing something?

Volvo vs MDX

I have been a HUGE Volvo fan for the past 20 years. I owned a 240 that was like a tank and was a great car, after that I bought a 740 sedan that my daughter is now driving while at college (it has 225,000 miles on it) and I am currently selling my 1999 S70 AWD sedan (the sedan version of the XC). They have all been excellent cars to own and drive. When I decided (last fall) that it was time to buy a new car, the Volvo XC was my first stop. After some research, I was not impressed with some of the changes that have taken place with the Volvo since being bought by Ford. Seems that they have cut back to be competitive, and the cars only live on reputation for safety. I was surprised to learn that the MDX was a more highly rated car in terms of safety. They have made the cars smaller and less comfortable, in my opinion.
I was a die hard Volvo fan, but I have seen the light. The MDX is the single most fun I have had with any car to date. I am not even excited about the prospects of my wife's new BMW. I have NO complaints, and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

That's interesting, because almost all car magazines and people rave about the quality and ergonomics of Volvo seats. My dad has a 940 and the seats are great. Its being said Volvo seats are some of the best out there and almost Lazyboy like in comfort. Maybe theyre cutting some custs in the seats.

As far as the seats are concerned, my S70 is one of the most comfortable car seats I have ever used. 5 and 6 hour rides are no problem on the back. I will say that the MDX is also very comfortable for me. That may well be partly due to the relatively large amount of space afforded the driver.

Fireblade XC90

Interesting, the points Fireblade criticizes tend to be Volvo's strengths: turning radius and seat comfort. Maybe Ford has truly ruined the stalwart Swede! Fireblade btw, ever get the pics of the Headers and performance chip installation on your X? Still can't find any reference on the web for any performance enhancements for the X from the vendors and companies you have mentioned.

Fireblade6,

Wow, how were you able to pull off a drive of an XC90 at the San Diego International Auto Show?

I thought that the XC90 wasn't even being shown at the San Diego Auto Show. Did they just bring it there and not display it to the public?

just visited NY AutoShow yesterday...

saw the new Volvo SUV - VERY IMPRESSIVE! Unfortunatelly, it was hard to climb into it while it was rotating on the stand - I thought maybe in San Diego it was easier. Fireblade? ;)
Forget about testing the turning circle, but I did sit in a Cross Country! The quality of interior and leather seats are OUTSTANDING! MDX seats feel like a wooden bench in comparison, but I kinda like it. They were supportive 'nough to take me 5 hours non-stop from New York to Maryland, at night, in heavy rain - I personally think the seats should not be even NEAR the Lazy-Boy quality for one plain reason - safety! You dont want to get too comfortable and fall asleep when driving at night with heavy rainfall and morons hydroplanning their way into your lane... BTW, I found a great way to fight the sleepiness - I turned on the headlight, nice and cozzy... but I'm straying off topic here, sorry!
