I am a Moderator on another website ( check the sig ) recently a user posted this link to Another Honda based website if you scroll down to a User name named Mike you'll see what he received. What do you think does for Honda in General or Honda Based Forums/Websites?http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=152925

honda-odyssey.com became odyclub.com after they received a similar letter(s) sometime last year. The site owner didn't transfer the domain name to Honda, nor would I without compen$ation worthy of the name they neglected to register.

Not sure whether they make any distinction between .com and .org sites, or whether they've made it to any acura sites yet. I haven't seen anything mentioned on the TL or CL sites (knock on wood).

They do have the right to protect their trademarks, but I'm not certain whether it matters if the name used can reasonably be inferred by the casual surfer to be actually associated with the company itself.

From a PR/Marketing standpoint, it's a mistake to snuff out the enthusiast sites. Sounds like from the final posts in that growing thread that they're working it out, tho...maybe a "not affiliated with Honda" deal going on there, along with some promises not to turn into a slam-the-company-daily site?

Plenty of lawyers around here to comment.

(btw, I think the suggestion for the users not to email or act until+unless the site admin asks for that effort makes sense)

copywrite

I have been wondering how long we could keep the AcuraMDX web name. It is a clear copywrite violation as far as I can see and if Honda wants to protect their copywrites they will come after this. Porsche is another company that ACTIVELY pursues copywrite infringements. As you can imagine there is a certain cache to the Porsche name and people adopt it with all sorts of other merchandise, (including some porno sites I'm told). Porsche has gone to court with several auto enthusiest sites that seem to defy logic. They promote the sportscar and are not commercial, just owners and potential owners who love to talk up the car. Porsche sued them. The settlement was that they had to give the name to POrsche I believe. So, I don't doubt that Honda is defending theirs!
