Help - our Trip History function is on the fritz. Fairly often (at least once a week or so) the "auto reset with fill up" turns itself off. Also the odometer feature of the trip history (not dashboard) resets to zero as well.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes i got those glitches too. Plus my mpg by the time I fill up sometimes ranges from 31mpg to 45mpg.
I went to our nearest dealer- David McDavid Acura of Austin and all they can do is gave me a blank stare then test drive it and of course since this is more of a software problem and not with the transmission or suspension, as I pointed to them out they found nothing wrong with it.:(

I have the same problem. Too much electronics in these new cars. Smile, and think you are the only car on the road that has five memory positions of mileage.

P.s. I won't let dealer touch the computer for cosmetic reasons. (i.e. they will make the dash look like ****)

Ours did the same.. once got 615 on a tank.. yeah, right. Took it to dealer (Pasadena Acura) .. they said it needed a software upgrade. Put us on a list (obviously not a new problem to them).. took 3 weeks to call us in, half hour of uploading, washed the car to boot.. and now it works. Just keep bugging them.

thanks - 4mel

I will ask them about a software upgarde. I agree it is not a mechanical problem.

The whole trip history and average mileage system seems to be iffy at best. I've had averages between 6 and 46 MPG. The guys at Los Gatos Acura in California just said, "Yeah, you can't really trust that mileage. It's just based on a 48mph average." (Whatever that is supposed to tell me).

2000 miles and the service guys aren't concerned that some of the nicest potential "features" aren't worth the photons they're emitting.

Those guys should be writing fiction rather than fixing cars.

Computer Problems:

Looks like this only happens with Nav -- true/false ??? [I don't have a clue if the non-Nav computer keeps a history so please excuse me if this is a dumb question].

Looked like reports were only on 2001s -- true/false ???

Is there a Service Bulletin out on this issue?

srpbep,
2002 Touring w/Nav. 2000 miles, purchased in Feb. About 10 tanks of gas, I think 4 "History" readings reported mileage accurately (say, within 2 miles per gallon).

Anybody that has more information on the software upgrade, I'd like to come back here and report that this issue was a simple fix.

Thanks me95124:

You resolved 2001/2002 question. Interesting, our 2002 has been behaving [so far]. I wonder if there is a flaky/marginal sensor involved? This could be "accomodated" with a software tweak [desensitize input]. Might explain why some Xs do it and others don't !!

Do you know the other half of the equation = Nav-Only or either Nav/TripComputer? Don't know the capability of the Trip Computer, thus I don't know whether it is "susceptible" to problem.

Doubled mileage...

On one tank recently, the miles were doubled at fillup, doubling the reported miles per gallon. It has only happened one time, and I think it was the only time I was actually playing with the navi while filling the tank. Maybe that's what confused it?

Clarification

I am not talking about mileage accuracy. My problem is NO mileage info.

My problem is that the "auto reset with fill up" turns itself off. This happens quit frequently. We set it to "auto" and a few days later for no apparent reason it has turned itself off.

Also the electronic odometer resets itself to zero on occassion. If this is reset at fillup (either manually of by "auto" - of course my "auto" don't work!) then the trip mileage must equal the dashboard trip odometer (also assuming manual reset.) Of course when the mileage resets on its own there is no trip history.

Trip Computer

I just got off the phone with Acura Client Services re: the wacky-take-a-wild-guess Trip History Computer goofy functioning and this is what they told me:

There is ONE disc (CD/DVD-whatever) ONE DISC in the whole USofA with the software upgrade on it taking a road trip. The rep said that since there was only ONE DISC "It might take a while before our dealer gets to take their turn".

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

sajakake ...

PLEASE tell me you are kidding and that you work for LEXUS and are trying to sell us RX300s.

Unfortunately, I think you have shared what you have been told. If this is true, then Acura is REALLY STUPID. Not because there is only 1 disk, but because they would have us believe that there is only 1 disk. Replicating CD/DVD media is not rocket science. The thought that an MDX owner had to "jump" to satisfy Acura's schedule is simply ridiculous [e.g. "have your MDX at dealer XYZ on Tuesday 12th of Never to have your software updated!!]. In my heart, I believe that Acura is having problems and this "line of xxxxx" was simply to get you off their back.

Has this organization ever given thought to establishing a relationship with Acura, one that represents lots of MDX owners [don't know the number].? I once heard that "there is power in numbers".

There's another post on here today with regards to poor snow performance where our lexus 'friend' made some interesting comments about how the Highlander will never have those problems.
I think we have a psuedo-member who can not find a forum to call home.
Instead, finds this a great opportunity to put down Acura since there is little that can be done about Toyota's only 2 rows of seats, 300 lbs. of gas guzzling 4 wheel drive hardware that one has to buy as an an option.
Making the most of it while there is still snow on the ground, eh?
Now Spring is here how you going to take off those 300 lbs. of winter survival hardware, or do you 'off-road' to work?

New Trip Software 2.05E

I just wanted to note that we took the car in and they didn't find any problem. The details in the itemization have one line that says, "Updated software from ver. 2.05 to 2.05E."

They also point out that we should reset the trip information at fill-ups OR set it to Auto Reset. Note: we have always had it on Auto Reset.

Anyway, it seems to be more accurate now. Only two tanks with this software and no long, highway trips yet (to get higher gas mileage where it last came up with 46.2 MPG).

I'll write back either way at the end of April after another 1200 mile trip.

Thanks for the update

I have not taken the time to take mine in yet. I plan on calling them soon and checking into Trip software upgrades. I want to make sure they have time to do the background work before I drop it off.

You got to be kidding me. We have CD-Burners that cost as low as 100 and now DVD Burners as low as 500 dollars. Hes telling you that a multi billion corp Like Honda cant make more than ONE DVD for SW upgrade? I would like to bop him one. Computer illiterate dork. My dad prob knows more than him!
