Hi all. Picked up my MDX on 2-21-02. Odometer reads 160 miles today. When I park, I like to go into Neutral, put on the E-Brake, then shift to Park. Well, 8 out of 10 times I hear a "clunk" as I pass by Reverse - almost is if it is engaging Reverse on the way by. Again, 8 out of 10 times I hear and feel this. E-Brake or not, still the same. Any others have this experience?

Similar 'clunk' noise

I hear a similar noise but my instance is a bit different. When the X is cold (morning drive-off), I'll occasionally 'coast' out of my driveway in Neutral, and then shift into D5 when I reach the road. That's when I hear the 'clunk'. This does not recur once the X is warmed-up, or put into gear from a standing start. The vehicle is brand new with only 500 miles on it currently...could be a break-in symptom. If it persists, I may take it to get dealer-checked.

If that's a MDX characteristic, I sure wish we could somehow learn that before throwing 45k out the window. What "junk" for 45k. They should be embarassed - I am. All I have to do is get a friend or client in this thing, and, hey, it speaks for itself. Just listen for the gas to slosh 6 or 8 times each time you stop....or go. Listen for the tranny, the brakes, wind noise , etc. My 98 4runner was a way more solid and better finished vehicle by far.

Re: Very very common problem

Acutally not really a problem. More like MDX characteristic. Mine does it with >10000miles on it. Do a search and there's a large thread about it.
The noises came at 10,000 miles, or did you have them from day one?
I only got 600 miles, and except for an occassional soft clicking below the dash over harsh bumps, it's very quiet.

Picked it up in late Feb. 1900 miles now. This stuff is going on from day 1 . Based on the posts here, these are things you can do nothing about. I read things here like " turn the stereo up louder " , then, we all ***** that "the stereo is no good" - go figure.
