No problems. '01 Base, mid-June '01 build.
2002 Tour/Nav 10900th made.

Tranny problem started with a leak, dealer could not find where the leak was coming from. Replaced the entire tranny. Leak stopped but something was causing check engine light to come on. A sensor for torque converter was the culprit, 2nd tranny was installed...
So far, after about 600 miles, so far so good....no leak, no light, no noise....

One year old ...

... with 18,000 miles and no tranny problems.
Just a clicking noise when shifting from D5 to P. dealer looked at it and thought it was normal. I still think that this noise is not normal. The MDX is 2001 model, 6 months old, built in Sept. 2001.
NO TRANNY PROBLEMS

NO PROBLEMS ON MY 2002 WITH 4500 MILES, IT DOES MAKE THE SHIFTING NOISE OF THE LINKAGE FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND BACK. THIS IS NOTHING BUT THE LINKAGE ON THE TRANNY IT COULD BE GREASED TO QUIET BUT NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. IF PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANNY THERE IS A TSB ON IT FOR THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT.

No problems

I've had my MDX since March 2001, 15,000 miles later, no problems.
got our MDX on March 5th, 2001
almost 10,000 miles ... thankfully no tranny problems

However, we do hear that annoying linkage sound when shifting from Park to D5. After a few shifts, back and forth, the sound dies down. Dealer has no idea why, most likely because by the time we get the X to the dealership the car has warmed up and the fluids have be all over the tranny that the sound dies down.

Just my 2-cents, I could be wrong.
The clicking noise that I hear when shifting from D5 to P, happens even if the X has been driven for a long trip ( X is really warmed up). As I understood from this thread and other threads that I found, a lot of Honda vehicles have this problem! It could be just the dampening effect, of the fluid on engaging gears, may not be enough.

Why yes I do.

On my way to a local Target in Hackensack NJ the check engine light came on and the VTM-4 light as well. I quickly noticed the MDX became a bit jerky - like it was switching from FWD to AWD and back. At the parking lot the MDX reved up and down constantly. I was able to dirve it home and had a flat bed pick it up in the AM and took it to Ramsey. That was Friday.

So far I have no idea what the hell happened or what is going on. Their hand held computor is not working so they cannot make a diagnosis. Something like that.

So I am driving thier Honda Accord for the time being.

This sucks.

We had a similar problem [maybe identical] with our 2002 [less than 2 mos old, less than 2000 miles]. The VTM-4 and the Check Engine warning lights came on [they say that the Check Engine warning light is almost "a given" in a situation like this].

Took dealer several days to isolate the problem. Turned out to be a defective VTM pressure switch [a sensor]. This was repaired at the end of February [simple part replacement] and we have not had any problems since. Please reference the thread "General, Problems, Check Engine Warning Light" for additional info.

Hope your problem turns our to be as minor as our was. Failure of a sensor on a brand new vehicle is not all that uncommon, so don't be too bummed if this is all it turns out to be [that is why we have a warranty]. If it turns out to be the trans or rear end, that "might upset me just a tad"!! [you betcha].

Here's hoping that it is as minor as our was. Please keep us all posted ... Steven

Thanks.

The vehicle drives just fine!

Transmission failed. Wouldn't shift out of first gear. Check engine light on. At service since for 5 days thus far (but they did give me their only MDX Demo for test driving) Live is good :(

Ok. Here is the latest.

Acura of Ramsey failed me so.....

I picked up my car from them last night.

No problems or lights flsshing on the way home. As if ass is well.

Took it too Acura of Maywood this morning and they are checking the MD as I type this message.

I expect them to find out the problem was a sensor or chip or something small. I hope....

To be continued........

My car has been fixed by the nice folks at Acura of maywood.

It was the "valvue set"

I do not know what the hell that is but as long as it is fixed who cares.

thanks folks.
Tranny problems

I have a feeling that most of these tranny problems are due to low tranny fluid. Check your fluids on a regular basis, and get used to knowing where they are. When I picked up my new MDX the fluids were low, if I didn't re-check it the dealer would have never known. With my family in the auto industry, it is common that new cars go out with low oil levels and tranny fluid levels. If you don't pick this up right away, You will experience the problems listed here. Even a little low on this type of tranny could cause damage. The dealers will never admit that it was low when you picked it up. Do yourselves a favor and check oil and tranny fluid on a regular basis and tell them when it's low and to top off. Why trust a 40K vehicle to someone at dealer dealer who doesn't even make that amount of money in a year!!!
