my 2014 MDX has a four wire trailer connection. I recently took on a trailer which has a self-actuating braking system. The problem is that when I put into reverse, the brakes locked up, As one would imagine. What I have to hook up in order to deactivate the solenoid on the trailer?

Thanks for any help

You need to install a 5 wire trailer wiring harness, or a standard RV-style 7-wire with a 7-round to 5-flat adapter. The fifth "blue" wire is from the vehicle backup lights. That powers the solenoid on the trailer that disengages the surge brake during backing.

It is much better to get a trailer wiring kit that uses custom connectors rather than attempting to splice into the vehicle wiring. Acura's 7-wire kit is good but expensive, and it might be hard to mount the 7-round socket on an aftermarket hitch. E-trailer has lots of options for DIY. U-Haul can do it if you don't want to deal.
