As you may already know that unless you are willing to buy other towing package, acura dealers will not sell you trailer hitch. I am only interested to use trailer hitch to mount bikes or skies. So, my question is how easy/hard to buy the parts from Tim and install it yourself? Or, any good aftermarket provider in the Bay Area you'd suggest to add a trailer hitch? Thanks.

If you read the instructions from Tim, it is pretty straight forward. I am not sure if MDX takes the same hitch as the Odyssey. It looks like you can get the whole package for Ody at the same price as the hitch for the MDX.

My Acura dealership put only the Acura trailer hitch on my vehicle, for carrying bikes. They said that they could see the strain in ohhhh...... um maybe it was the steering column or the gear box. Well anyways they do have a way of seeing how the hitch is used, and they will let you use it for bikes and not get all of the other stuff that comes with them.

If you just want a hitch, go aftermarket. Hidden Hitch and Draw Tite both make them (others may as well). Very easy to install, no drilling etc.....they just bolt on. Got mine at www.etrailer.com

Since I bought mine, I have read a couple of posts on overheated transmissions. Given that, I am now considering putting on the cooler even though I do not tow. Buying the Acura parts separately does not save much over HondaAcuraWorld's price for the whole kit. If you may tow, or want to prolong transmission life, might want to consider the kit.

You can save by buying the genuine part from Tim. In this case case (which include hitch and coolants) the labor is more involved. You should consider just have it installed by the dealer or just buy it at the dealer. When you add the cost and labor.. in my case it would be about the same when I order the part and go to the dealer for installation. Something like removing the bumper for the cooler install is not what I can do.
