[2017 hybrid mdxer]

So what does everyone recommend for tires? I’m looking at Michelin’s cross climate 2 and continental lx25, not the sports. I have 2017 mdx sport hybrid. Also where recommend buying? Seems all about same price wise. Discount tire or local shop, or NTB?

I'm still a year or two away from needing tires on my 19 MDX hybrid (25,000 miles). I keep my hybrid in Sport IDS mode and I live in the southwest, hwy speeds of 70-85 mph, winter snow only lasts 6-24 hrs, less than 10 inches of precipitation per year, and it takes 4-12 hours to get to most places worth going to.

I was thinking about going with the Conti DWS 06 Plus. Unfortunately, my OEM rims size is 20X8 and the tires size I want in 265/45/20 or 275/45/20 need 8.5 rims. I will probably upgrade to aftermarket rims when I'm due for tires. I've always had very good driving experiences all year in all kinds of weather with Cont DWS with my 06 TSX, 08 RDX, and 11 MDX.

As mrgold35 says, the conti DWS-06 isn't available in the stock size, and the 45 series exact diameter need a wider wheel. I went with 255/45/20 DWS-06 on mine. spedo and odo are off slightly. about 2-3%. Odo reads 0.1m high on a 5 mile odo check section on the highway and 60mph actual is 62-63 indicated. Not ideal, but the performance of the DWS-06 is SO much better than the stock conti that it's worth it. I've run the DWS-06 on mutiple vehicles and is the tire our kids have choosen also. Great all weather performance tire, quiet, and decent tread life.

If you can get a set of 8.5" rims, then the 265/45/20 would be my choice.

Im getting close too and ao far I have settled on Pirelli Scorpion AT+3. Discount here is $211 each with a 70,000 mile tread life

I replaced the OEM Continentals on my 2014 non-hybrid with Michelin Premier LTX and am happy with them. I'm very happy with the prices and especially service I've received from Discount Tire. If Costco is having a sale on the tires you want and you don't feel like going to Costco for them Discount Tire will usually price match.

I figured I'd piggy pack off this thread since I'm in a similar situation with my 2019 Sport Hybrid. I'm at 55k miles on the OEM CrossContact LX Sports. They've actually performed just fine for us, but I'm no tire expert, so maybe I'm missing out on a better experience? My biggest concern is losing fuel efficiency with a different tire since we're averaging 28+mpg over the last 30k miles (at least according to the trip computer).

I have also been noticing that the OEM tires are pretty lightweight compared to others...29lbs each. Would going to a 32-34lb tire impact the fuel efficiency much? Is going to a sportier non-suv specific tire going to have a big effect on that?

I live in Florida, so not worried about snow, but handling in the rain is obviously a priority!

Any thoughts on a better option that wouldn't sacrifice fuel efficiency and maybe add to the driving experience?

I only go with Conti DWS 06 because we get very mild winters with only 2-4 snow days in the 3-4 winter time months (the snow is usually gone by lunch and for sure by the next day). Yearly precipitation is only 5-7 inches for my home town. Dedicated winter tire wouldn't work for me with temps +40 degrees F most winter days. We just have wild temperature and weather swings of teens/20s in the morning, afternoon highs in 40s/50s/60s, and we can have sun, rain, snow, and back to sun on the same day. We sometimes get a trace amount of snow in the city and 1-2 feet in the mountains 20-30 minutes away. The Conti DWS 06 is a very good "jack-of-all-trades" kind of all season tire and provides Ultra high performance and handling for the posted 75 or 80 mph interstate speeds in mountainous switch backs (usually 5-10 mph above posted speed).

You probably need to check with Acura drivers in the Pacific Northwest that need a good performance tire that is also excellent in the rain all year.

I'm on the same boat that needing a new tires for my Tech NOT hybrid. Hate the original Continental tires, replaced it with the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and love it, I put over 100K+ miles on it and still going but it's time for a new one. I am still debating between Michelin Defender and Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra due to the price increases on the Michelin.

When the Michelin Premier LTX tires wore out on my 2014 MDX (second set of tires) I replaced them with Michelin Defender LTX (third set of tires). They seem fine so far over 16K miles into them.

I'm also debating the Bridgestone Alenza AS ultras... they're probably my front runner choice right now. My dealership also recommended the Michelin Defender 2 as the 'best' choice. The DWS 06 seems to get a lot of praise, but I don't want to stray from the stock size.

After a day of excessive research in my work downtime, I think I'm actually leaning towards the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3. #1 out of 48 tires in its class on tire rack and lots of good reviews. Also not the most expensive. Anyone else have experience with these tires?

Live in the PNW now for 40 years, plenty of rain, occassional light snow and inevitable ice..... Had many tires good and bad for this weather combo. The DWS is head and shoulders above the Conti LX and michelin primacy in wet, snow and ice, and dry pavement. The difference between the Conti LX and DWS-06 on our MDX was remarkable in the rain. I got rid of the Conti LX even though they were less than half worn because of what DW and I considered the poor wet weather performance and didn't want to go through another wet season with the LX. Glad we did. They are NOT a substitute for a winter only true snowflake tire like the Bridgestone Blizzak but are a very good all around performance tire. I've had better summer only performance tires, and on my truck winter is blizzak time, but now retired, if weather is bad enough for "snoflake" tires, it's stay at home.

I track fuel economy religiously, not by the "lie o meter" but by actual fuel used. Between 20Kish miles with the stock Conti LX and 20+K miles with the DWS-06 I haven't seen a noticeable difference. And looking at some of the same long distance trips, overall mpg varied 1mpg or so, but pretty independent of tires. In town again, if there is a difference it would be pretty hard to point it out.

I also live in the PNW. Last Thanksgiving I decided I did not want to go through another winter with the crappy stock tires. So after a lot of research I put on a set of Pirelli Scorpion AS+3s. Great decision. Through rain, snow, ice I had to take the wife to town for radiation treatments. The tires behaved exacrly like I hoped for. Not one problem or missed appointment. The tires ride smooth are pretty quiet. After about 10,000 miles they still look brand new.

I'm in a similar scenario with my LX Sports (although not quite at 55k miles). I don't have a point of comparison, but they get poor reviews on tirerack and people in this forum generally seem to dislike them. Therefore, I'm convinced that most popular choice tires would be better in terms of road noise, handling in weather, etc. The Scorpions AS Plus 3 and DWS 06 (although they come in 245/50's) seem to get a lot of praise.

I replaced my Conti Sports with the LX25's on my 17 MDX (20" tires) and am very pleased. Ride is softer, quiet, and should last longer than the 36k that the OEM's lasted, based on their treadlife ratings. I was gonna buy from Tire Rack, but my local Chevy/Buick dealer, that I'm VERY tight with, actually bettered the Tire Rack price. And it was nice to be able to buy from a LOCAL business that I respect very much. They treat me like royalty.

I installed the Pirelli Scorpion AS+3 after reading the ratings and reviews on tire rack.com where it is rated number 1 in it 's category. They ride very quiet and smooth!

When I bought my 2017 MDX Nav last April, it came with new Uniroyal Cross Country Tours. I thought, at the time: "Uuhh, Uniroyals", but figgured I'd wear them and go for something different later. Well, they have turned out better than I thought they would.....quiet and predictable on the highway, and even, minor wear, so far (about 8000 klicks). Then we get socked with early winter snows and freezing temps, and my Nokians are still two weeks away by schedule for installing. The Uniroyals have been surprisingly good on the ice.....we live in a very hilly area, and some roads are ant-traps for unprepared vehicles. No problems going wherever I want, but that may say more about the AWD system than the tires.

About a month ago I got the Bridgestone Weatherpeak all-weather tires installed on the stock 245/50R20 rims. I live in WI and wanted a better snow tire without going all in on a separate dedicated set of rims/tires, too lazy for that. Not many reviews on these tires yet since they are fairly new, released in June 2022 I think. Despite this I decided to go with them because they are supposed to be a direct competitor to the Cross Climate 2, are Bridgestone's first three-peak mountain snowflake badged tire, Bridgestone knows a thing or two about making a good snow tire (Blizzak), and wanted to try something new. So far they have been great, better handling, and a tad quieter in dry and rain. Although my stock tires were at 36k miles so maybe my judgement is off. Haven't run them in snow yet unfortunately but looking forward to it given my current experience.
