I have a 2005 MDX and had the timing belt done at 200,000km within the last 2 years by a independent Honda service mechanic.
I don't drive much so have barely put 20,000kms on it since the belt was done.
My car started making a really loud noise and not running smoothly so I took it back to the same mechanic.
He has now had it for 3 days. When I contacted them again this afternoon the receptionist said something about a pulley and a new belt will need to be done.
Am I liable for this? How or why did this happen? And will I now possibly have engine problems?

It's a 15 year old car and 2 years since the TB was done. Even if it is timing belt related it isn't necessarily something the mechanic did wrong. Pulley and belt, does that mean the idler pulley? Was it changed at the same time the timing belt was? Even if it was and has now failed most shops give a 12 mo warranty and you are at 2 years. With any luck you only jumped a tooth or so on the belt and didn't hurt the engine. The fact that it was still running is a good sign.
