Hello!

I am looking to install a third brake light, and would just like some recommendations on the module you used. I am particularly fond of those that have an accelerometer equipped, so it is not bothersome to those around me in stop-and-go traffic in the Orlando area.

If you have any recommended models, please send them over! Thanks, guys.

I’m afraid I don’t understand. There is already a third light. What purpose would an accelerometer serve?
Hello,

This is to replicate some vehicles that utilize a flashing third brake light for heavy braking. This is to differentiate between an “emergency stop” and regular braking. I’m assuming that if I am going to splice a connection into a module, an accelerometer could decide if the brake light will steady burn, or flash if the G forces applied to the vehicle because of heavy braking. I believe some modern BMWs have this system already.

I apologize if what I said isn’t legible as English is not the language I grew up with.

I know there is a device that makes the brake light pulse or flash a few times before going solid but that's everytime you apply the brake. It can't differentiate between regular breaking and more aggressive braking.

I have decided to begin work on my own, will likely use an Arduino Nano board with an accelerometer along with a buck module or relay, so the Arduino will act like a switch. I have already coded it up and have to order the boards for testing!

Stay tuned for progress. I will most likely be making multiple units for friends and family.

Has anyone tried this? I'd like to install this on my car.
yes, I have one on my SL500, it was an easy install, and also on my motorcycle. On the car it flashes the CHMSL for a few seconds then it stays on like the brake lights. On the motorcycle since there is only one brake light it flashes it for a few seconds then goes on. Also on the car if you apply the brakes then release and apply within a few seconds again, it doesn't go through the flashing routine again. Only if there are more than a few seconds between applications.

Now, I installed the one on the car about 10 years ago, and don't recall what brand it was. The one for the motorcycle was unique for the motorcycle.
