I put a deposit for a base MDX on June 20th, 2001 at Park Ave Acura in Maywood, NJ at MSRP. It has been over 6 months but my MDX has not showed up. My salesman Joe D'Amico has given me a VIN number for a base MDX which was supposed to have been shipped out of the Newark, NJ pooling area on Jan 21, 2002. He says he has no idea where that MDX is or even if it has been sent to a different dealer. He claims that this is happening to many of his MDX shipments. He claims that he has no way of contacting anyone at Acura to check what happened to that vehicle. Is this a credible story ? Please help me out.

My 2 cents.....

It doesn't sound remotely possible to me that this guy's cars aren't showing up and he doesn't have any way of checking with Acura. I'd go elsewhere. You've waited far too long already. There's dealers with cars showing up in the next 30 days or so that aren't spoken for.....JMHO.

I don't think so. Honda knows where they send every car to. Do you think a 40K car will be "lost in the mail"?

My salesman called me the day the car had a vin number. That is the "birthday" of the car.. meaning it was completely built. Then, the car is loaded on the rail and on its way to its destined dealership. The transportation time varies a couple days but other than that, they should know.

MDX303,
I'll complain to the manager there, give them the VIN you got from the sales and see what that manager will say. You may be able to get something good from the manager. If you do not get better treatment after the complain, you should go to different dealer. Chance are you just run into a bad sales.

I agree i would also speak with the sales manager or general manager at the dealership. I would not recommend going to another dealer though because you waited 6 months already, i think it would be pretty stupid if you cancelled the order and went to another dealer and waited another 6 months or pay a couple grand above msrp. Due to previous experience(I used to be a salesperson for honda a few years ago), try not to take it out totally on the salesman. Remember that he doesn't get paid until the car is delivered so im sure he wants you to get the car as bad as you want it. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Does the dealer ever sell over MSRP, or does he have a policy of NEVER selling above MSRP? If he'll sell over MSRP, he'll sell to the highest bidder -- somebody with deeper pockets may have gotten your X because he/she was willing to fork over an extra few grand. And if that happened, your salesman knows it!

MDX303:

I just picked up my Silver Base last Friday at Park Avenue. I ordered it on May 8th, so if they are actually working off their "list" in order than you might still have some time. My salesman was George Meyerson, and he was a nice guy, though I still think feel that getting info out of him was like pulling teeth. I basically just pestered him to death by popping in every other week to see where I stood in line. He claimed that they were only getting in one Silver Base per month and he would show me their list so I could see who was ahead of me. He did not tell me that I had a vehicle coming in until it actually had been built but that was because I kept on top of him and I knew about 3 weeks before it was built that it would be mine.

I would go in there and ask to see there build listing to see if the vehicle was built and when.

I actually only met Joe the day I picked up my X because it turns out that he is best friends with my Volvo salesman, who is the one of nicest salesmen I ever met.

By the way where do you live in NJ?

We've had a couple MDX's since they came out that were off loaded in OH., and were loaded on a train touring the mid-west. That is a real rarety, all we did was called Acura to find them, they called us the next day with their location and delivery was delayed about a week. Well, I have to go to the Portland Auto Show today (I'd rather eat worms). I'll take my digital and take some pics and make a good day out of it.

Another opportunity for personal growth
