Squeaky brakes--

2174 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  lmeans
I checked and didn't see anything about squeaky brakes. I have them really bad. I know sometimes dust gets on them, but after driving it and applying the brakes you would think the dust would go away. Any suggestion on why I would have a bad case of the squeaks and what should I do about it?

squeaky brakes

I have never had a car with such squeaky brakes. They work fine but man, they always squeak, especially in reverse. Also they clunk wHen I first apply the brake just as they begin to grab. Guess it is the nature of the beast.
squeaky brakes--

I wonder if turning the rotors would make them from not squeaking. Tahoe4wd, that's when I first noticed them squeaking was in reverse, but now it's all the time. I don't have the clunking when I apply them though. I wonder what that could be.

Imeans: Turning the rotors would not make a difference. If the rotors were bad enough to do that it would be a defect. Squeaky brakes--the sound our MDX's make-- usually just means the brake pad material is of such a content that it makes the rotor squeal. You can use softer material but then the pads don't last as long. More metal in the pad material could be what's happening which isn't a problem--just makes them squeak. As far as the Clunking when the brakes are applied might be loose calipers. I will have the dealer check next time I'm in Sacramento.
Thanks for your reply Tahoe4wd. Good luck on your clunk.
