When is a good time to change spark plugs? My mdx is at 78,000 miles right now and I am hearing ticking engine noise. Changing spark plugs will get rid this noise? Should I use seafoam and spread through the intake to clean all the carbon build up first and see if this will help?

While I'm no expert, I had new spark plugs installed around this same particular mileage (about 75,000 miles) and noticed considerable improvement in engine pickup/fluidity (if that even makes any sense....)....I say go for it! :29:...I went with DENSO iridium spark plugs from Amazon

Does the new spark plugs make your engine running quieter?

While I've found this two ton + vehicle to ALREADY run very quiet by default (almost too quiet most times- pedestrians sometimes don't know that there's a 4'11" lead foot chick seated in the cockpit of a lethal 300HP motorized beast right behind them~ when walking in front of my '09 MDX in an alley for instance!) the engine did seem to run much smoother (POST spark plug install)- so I will say YES to your question ;)

How much did you pay for all the spark plugs?

At $6 a bottle, it won't hurt anything to run a couple of bottles of SeaFoam through your gas tank and see if it helps. I use the occasional bottle of SeaFoam on my high mileage vehicles, and all the time in by boat.

That ticking can be multiple things..
Valve lash
Purge valve solenoid
Bad timing belt tensioner

The list goes on and on... Should probably pinpoint the cause of the ticking as IS NOT spark plug related.

Id recommend changing the DENSO spark plugs every 75,000 miles..
Use NGK LASER IRIDIUMs for 100,000mile use.

Depends on the year, Part number for the LASER IRIDIUM:
For 07-09 use IZFR6K-11
For 10-13 use ILZKR7B-11S

1.- LASER IRIDIUM is the highest grade of NGK Plugs.
Then goes down to:
2.- LASER PLATINUM
3.- IRIDIUM IX
4.- PLATINUM
5.- V POWER

I purchased SIX of these (you can now snag them for under $7 a spark plug!) from Amazon- highly recommended!!

Denso (4702) IK20TT Iridium TT Spark Plug
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TPU8R2Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I changed my MDX spark plugs out at 75,000 miles and I'm almost due for my 105,000 service my next oil change. The early spark plug change will save me a little money during that high dollar service. I waited until the 105K service to do my plugs on my TSX and RDX a few years ago (both due around the same time). After the new plugs, both vehicles had faster starts, a little better acceleration, back to normal mpgs, and felt like I got back a few lost hp/tq on the old butt dyno. I didn't want to wait until 105K service on the MDX since the big girl is a little bit more sensitive about power and mpgs.

Some folks sometimes found a loose spark plugs from the factory and drove the MDX for years like that with sometimes scorching on outside area of the plug. Changing now would be a good double-check for this.

Thanks. I am ordering this ILZKR7B-11S for 2011 MDX. Why it only come with a pack of 4? I need 6.
