How do you get the shift knob off and put the wood one on?

I believe it's screwed on. Unscrew the existing one, screw the new one.

But Not Too Tighty!!!!

As some here learned by experience, the wood knob does NOT cover all of the shaft thread and if you try to screw it down until it does - you're gonna crack it like a walnut.
Don't worry though, the few turns of extra thread are only visible if you are looking for them. I love my woody, threads and all.

But, if seeing the extra threads bugs you, you can use a black rubber washer as a 'spacer' to take up enough space between the wood and the silver collar, to cover them. There's pics of this quick fix around this board, somewhere. I think it looks great with the 'fix'.
