I have had my 2004 mdx since feb 10 2018. Put in Kenwood $999 stereo nav head unit to replace the CD player. Acura dealer did work on it for but over $3100. I paid $6500 Plus fees. It’s got 169k miles. I want something newer with a better head unit touchscreen stock unit.

I’d like to know what are the differences between the 2004 mdx touring with Bose and nav vs 2007 and up mdx with same tech built in? And what cost would they go for from an Acura dealer used with say 110k or less miles?

I’m hoping to get at least $8k for mine considering all the money I put into it. I paid $6500 Plus fees to buy it. Take to Acura and spend a bit more then $3100 on routine maintenance and fixes and the Kenwood head unit at $1000. So Over $11k in the end. I’m also wondering if I should keep the Kenwood head unit and put back the stock CD player and DVD player.

Thanks all.

There is no way you'e getting $8k for your MDX. You didn't mention what trim level it is, but even if it's the top-level Touring, the blue book trade in value averages only 1855 in GOOD condition. Private party averages $4,229. Even if we bump the condition up to "Excellent" (and FYI, there is basically NOTHING that rates "excellent" in the real world on the used market) you still only get to a trade-in MAX of $3,357.

As for a 2nd gen MDX, prices vary with age/miles/condition/equipment, of course. A quick search of Autotrader for 2007-2013 MDX with <150k miles shows they start around $9-10k and if you want to be closer to 100k miles then they're $12.5+

Keep your car - you seemed to have brought it to current maintenance and should be good for a while.

In today’s market I suspect you will not be able to recover the costs you sunk into it and while the new radio system can help it sell quicker it’s not going to add value.

Actually all lots and dealers are selling less then mine for $8 k easy. Around here. And blue book is low sometimes according to a manager at Seattle Acura.

Every single mdx I see around here is a rip off. $16k for an 09. 12k for 07-08. Those are the prices in Washington state.

But I’m not keeping mine. I can’t stand the whiny tranny and other stuff.

Notice that’s trade in. Then dealers mark it up 4 x or more.
Just different view points here I guess. Like when you told me my 2004 mdx for $6500 was way over priced. Acura dealers sell this for $8000 here sometimes. Which I agree is way overpriced.

The fact that you're trying to get rid of your MDX is a bit of confirmation that it was over-priced. Your words and your actions do not align. :wink:0:)

I know it was overpriced. But they all are sadly. I didn’t know this before I got it. In my opinion every car is overpriced:(

I went to my parents yesterday. My Dad took it for a test drive. Came back and says he loves it and funny how he sorta moved his head while sitting in his chair and said he wants to make a deal. Lol. He is 79 yrs old. So his hearing isn’t as good as mine but with certain frequencies I can hear things a lot of people can’t. He says I have dog ears lol. So he don’t really hear the whine. He says he just hears road noise.

I really like my MDX for the most part. But I can’t stand the whine and can’t stand the steering wheel making a noise like somethings not right when I go over bumps. This started after Acura fixed the steering wheel. It had thump noises and you could feel them every few inches when you turn it. They fixed it but now it rattled over bumps sometimes.

Anyway those affect me greatly with my ocd and anxiety disorders. So I’m looking for something else. But I wish there was info online about the touch screen in the 2006 MDX. Features and info it shows and pictures. I might be interested in an 06 MDX if it doesn’t have the issues I have and less miles.

You might want to consider a newer vehicle, to reduce the likelyhood of "problems".

But I don't understand your commend about a lack of information online about the 2006 MDX... There is tons. Acura even still has the manuals available:

Owners Manual

Navigation Manual

Thank you. I didn’t know if Acura site would have old manuals online.

I googled mdx 2006 and never found the info I was looking for about the head unit. No high res easy to see pictures etc.

Is that what to call a touchscreen? Head unit? I don’t know the correct term.

That link for navigation is only 3 pages on my iPhone. Hmm.

Looks like the touchscreen in the 06 is exactly the same as in the 04. So I’m done with mdx now since I can’t afford the third generation ones and second gen isn’t touch.

Was the whine there when you bought the car? Or after the service was done? What service was done? Why not have the trans flushed? I've had an '04 since '05 and no whine.... Why would you by a car if you feel it's over-priced any way? Are you seriously looking to sell the car to your dad for $8K?
