Putting new shoes on my MDX soon. Probably the first thing I'll be doing in the next couple of months. Looking at Pirelli Scorpion Zeros, Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics, Continental ExtremeContact DWS, and Michelin Latitude HPs. All of them all season tires, and all of which have 50,000+ mile warranties. I've had a good experience with Michelins, and my ex-wife had Pirelli Centuratos on her '10 Camry, which performed incredibly well, but had very poor wear. I think we got 28,000 miles out of them.

My biggest priority is handling characteristics as well as traction. I've seen what happens when you go from a Toyo Proxy T1-S to a Kumho Ecsta ASX, and it's just awful. From the research I've done, the Continentals will probably have the poorest handling characteristics, but I definitely like the tread pattern (like that matters a heck of a lot). I have plenty of faith in virtually everything from Michelin, but if I can get slightly better handling/performance from the Scorpion Zeros or the Eagle F1s, I would certainly consider them. I like a very firm sidewall, good wet traction, and good maintained traction as the tires wears. I have no doubt that the Pirellis will wear faster than the rest, but after speaking with several associates at Discount Tire, I'll be able to get a free replacement for each one under warranty if they wear more than they should. The wet traction on the Centuratos on the Camry was ridiculously good and most reviews on Pirelli street tires are positive.

A lot of my driving is interstate, so I want something very stable at 85-90mph. Odds are, I'm splitting hairs and there wouldn't be much of a difference between these offerings, but if anyone has personal experience with some of these tires, would love some feedback. It snows about two days a year where I live, so snow traction isn't a huge concern. Going with stock size (255/50R19).

While I can't speak for the Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS I can speak for the Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS06- that '06' makes a big difference as this model is a step up (with significant improvement from the regular DWS 'DWS' model!)

Regarding the Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS06- the traction in both WINTER and Spring/Summer is more than adequate and I drive all my three cars like sports cars- all year round! :p

This has definitely been the best set of ALL SEASON tires I've ever owned on any of my cars (installed this on my 2009 MDX less than a year ago- ...have put about 7500 confident miles on these German manufactured tires thus far- still holding up like new)...works FLAWLESSLY in both Winter and Summer- NO need for two sets of tires anymore!!!!:

I'm happy to report that the Continental DSW06 ExtremeContact06 have more than adequate snow/winter traction (esp. for an All Season)- enough for me to now only run a SINGLE set of tires all year round :29:

I can second the recommendation for the Conti DWS 06 (upgraded my tire/rim to 255/45/20). I had the older Conti DWS for +55,000 miles on my MDX for a little under 3 years and really like them (also have the Conti DWS on my TSX, RDX, and my daughter's Mazda 3 hatchback because I like them so much). I just switched over to the Conti DWS 06 in the Fall of 2016 and they are an improvement over the older Conti DWS. I have around 20,000 miles on the newer Conti DWS 06 and still have around 8/32 tread all around as checked by Acura from my last oil change last month. The newer Conti DWS 06 has a stiffer sidewall and wear much more evenly across tread compared to the older version. The older version had a softer sidewall and the tire rolled a little more on tight corners causing the outer tread to wear prematurely.

I also like the Conti DWS 06 because they are non-directional tires. I can rotate front/back, side-to-side, and cross rotate as needed to even out the wear and keep road noise down. I've never been too excited with the Michelin OEM tire choices that came with Acura. The OEM tires are pretty good new; but, they start to increase in road noise, squeal on corners, and very poor traction in wet/slushy snow once the tread gets +70% worn. I mostly have dry and sunny weather majority of the time. If I do get bad weather, it is usually extreme, short, or just for
day or less or under 30-50 miles (like heading over a snow covered mountain pass at +11,000 feet). I have snow chains for those types of situations; but, never had a need to put them on with the combo of sh-awd and Conti DWS 06.

I put around 20,000 miles per year and usually stay in the southwest to southeast. I've had zero issues with older or newer versions of the Conti DWS:
- at sustained hwy speeds or 70-95 mph,
- extreme heat of +120 degrees in AZ
- extreme cold of below zero at ski resorts in southern CO
- never worried with wet, snowy, slushy, or icy roads
- traversing dirt the trails for miles for hiking or biking outings
- low road noise during lifetime if you rotate/cross rotate
- the tires have a rim guard lip to help protect the rims against curb rash
- I've never felt worried about loosing traction while hitting the mountain switchbacks or cloverleaf on/off ramp at 5-20 mph over the speed limit (sh-awd+ADS on sport+larger sway bars also help with that).

Whichever tires you go for, I would still do an alignment and road force balance. I purchased my MDX used with around 30K with OEM Michelin tires. The hwy ride home at 75-80 mph was extremely poor with a lot of drifting between the lanes, vibrations in the cabin, and squirrelly handing in turns. The Firestone alignment was mostly in the yellow and red before the adjustment and new rim/tires with road force balance has made the MDX extremely smooth, quiet, and stable at any hwy speed.

I don't know if it's just the superior handling/overall smooth ride of the 2nd gen. Acura MDX and/or the Continential Extreme Contact DWS06 tires, but when I make long road trips, I sometimes accidentally catch myself going up to 95mph-103mph on the interstate!!! ride is so smooth/quiet that it really doesn't seem like the car is going that fast!!!

In retrospect I'm just glad that the police (or as they say in Detroit- the Po Po) never caught me doing that as I believe that travelling at that speed in a motor vehicle is a FELONY or at least a misdeamanor wreckless driving in some states!! :surprise:

The speed limit in most of the southwest is 75 mph and cops leave you alone up to 80 mph (you start to get their attention around +7 mph over and posted speed). Certain parts of TX and UT the speed limit is 80 mph and 5 mph over is still safe. Certain parts of CO or AZ, you are holding up traffic at 5 mph over the posted 75 mph speed and you need to speed up or move out of the way (especially between Denver/Colo Sprgs or Flagstaff/Phoenix with fast lane speeds between 85-95 mph). The big girl has zero issues keeping up with traffic at those speeds and she has the added advantage of knowing how shake her rear when the road get curvy. When the hwy gets curvy at those speeds is when other sedans/SUVs (some with more HP) start to fall further behind in the rear view.

For some reason I thought the DWS 06 was a lesser tire. Well, I guess it's under consideration now, thank you for the input!

I hear you on the alignment and RFB. I bought a used Continental tire to replace a flat about two months ago just to get me by until I could do a full set. The other three are factory Michelins, two of which are fairly worn. I think one of them is actually fairly new. But there is a lot of involuntary tracking at highway speeds. I try to chalk it up to wind but most of the time, it just seems to walk back and forth more than it should.

I'm assuming by non-directional, you're just referring to non-directional (which I would never put on an SUV). From what I can see, they are asymmetric tires, which I prefer. I like the tread pattern on asymm's, plus you get the best of dry and wet handling combined into a single tire, and you can rotate them as you please.

My only concern with them is the handling characteristics. I'm finicky enough to notice marginal differences. Not that I'm going to be testing a bunch of tires on my vehicle before I decide on one, but I can usually feel tires in the driver's seat more than most. I've seen mixed reviews on the handling, whereas I know with Eagle F1s and Scorpion Zeros, the handling would be top notch. But I've had Continentals in the past and been extremely pleased with the traction and tread wear. I've got a really bad taste in my mouth from the used one I bought. It's got this terrible sidewall design and looks like it belongs on a tractor. Lol. Thanks for your input.

I was thinking the same thing with preferring the best of both worlds with an asymmetrical tread design compared to symmetrical or directional (V shape tread). Another big plus with the Conti DWS 06 is it can be a 4 season tire if you have wet winters with occasional light snow that is gone in a day or two. The newer Conti DWS 06 has a 560 UTQG rating and I got 55,000 miles from the old Conti DWS with 540 UTQG rating (usually get new tires at 4/32 or a touch below if it is still summer).

I've notice I need to up the PSI on my Conti DWS to around 34-37 according to TPMS depending on daily temps of the time of year to get the same ride quality year round. Keeping the PSI at recommend levels on door panel seemed to produce a softer/squishier ride with the Conti DWS. I've notice my PSI can dip 2-4 PSI on coldest winter mornings and up the same amount or more on the hottest summer day according to the TPMS. The MDX seems to ride a touch better at higher at higher PSI with Conti DWS 06.

I haven't even looked at the door panel PSI recommended levels. I try to keep mine at 36-38psi on the fronts and 34-36psi on the rears (once up to speed and warmed up). Because the weather has been so sporadic around here, I've been letting them run softer on the cold days in case it warms up drastically overnight. A week ago it was in the high 70s during the day, now it's in the low-mid 20s at night. Weather can't make up its mind.

I definitely like a firm ride. I've actually switched it to Comfort mode when popping over speed bumps or railroad tracks and left it there, then noticed I was feeling mildly queasy on the interstate. It's usually because the bounciness going over the small bridges makes me feel weird. So back in Sport mode it goes.

I've found the TPMS to be fairly accurate. Compared to a digital pressure gauge, TPMS tends to read 1psi low pretty consistently, both when the tires are cold and after a drive. Temperature gauge is usually 1 degree higher than my phone reads, so very close every time.

As far as the tires go, we normally get some rain during the winter, which sometimes freezes. Occasional dusting of snow, and 6+ inches every few years. We had some snow back in January, so I was able to get out and have some fun in it (got my car in Dec 2016). It was in the teens temperature-wise during the day, so they didn't salt the roads. So it was a mildly packed slip-n-slide. I did hit some really bad freezing rain just before Christmas going back and forth with a family emergency and the SH-AWD laughed at it. A couple of weeks ago, we got some really heavy rain, probably 2-3 inches inside of six hours and cars were pulled over on the interstate, highways, service roads, etc. I think the VTC light blipped on once for a second or two when I hit an intersection that was at least 4-5 inches deep in water, but even with a couple of worn tires, maintained normal speeds pretty much the entire way. Had some Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red, BFMV, In Flames, All that Remains, As I Lay Dying, and Mudvayne playing the whole way. Makes a good stormy drive playlist.
