How easy is it to remove the antenna? Has anyone tried to use a temporary magnetic mount antenna when carrying a large item on the roof?

I windsurf and just got a new very wide board that I would need to carry on top of the MDX and am concerned about the solution.

I don’t have an MDX but may place my order this week.

So far, my car has been through about every type of car wash...

i.e. the drive-thru kind with heavy thumping soft cloths, the stop kind where the foam brushes move around your car including a top brush roller that I thought for *sure* was going to rip and pound it right off, and lastly the cheap-o dealer car wash which was much like the above stop kind.

So far nothing is damaged or missing after 3 months and countless car washes.

The only thing I haven't tried are the car washes with the dryer that rolls over your hood, windshield, and roof.

I'm guessing since the antenna is flexible and already can take thumping cloths and huge spinning brushes, it would be fine there, too.

Point is, I wouldn't worry, just get your car clean!:)

Ebay has been running an ad from a guy selling an amplified version of the antenna. I have not been overwhelmed with the am reception of the radio and thought this might be a help. It sells for 30 bucks which isn't too bad and supposedly is pretty easy to put on in place of the existing one. Any comments or experience out there to help me???

just buy a attena amp and connect that. Short of them designing a new antenna I assume it would be the same.

Has anyone had the rooftop antenna damaged in a carwash? Do I need to remove it before?

My rooftop antenna was just broken during the car wash, too.

It seems pretty weak at joint.

I did the wash at one of those self-service car wash places and accidentally hit the antenna with the foam stick.

Not sure if that would be covered by warranty?

I guess I'll bring it back to the dealer and see what they would say.

missing antenna

Just discovered today that my antenna is GONE!! I don't know if something happened to it at the carwash or if someone unscrewed it...:3:

Went through a car wash in Temecula, CA and thought they'd done in my antenna. Turns out they'd taken it off (unscrewed it) and put it in the center console ahead of the shift knob, it rolled forward and didn't notice it for a day or two.

My antenna accidentally got thrown away -- long story. When I asked my dealership what it would cost to replace, the guy said it would be 125 bucks! Needless to say, I haven't replaced it. So now I read your posting and, of course, I'm wondering who Tim is and how I can contact him so I can finally replace my antenna.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First of all, I will bet you asked for an "antenna" or the ill-informed person you dealt with doesn't know the difference. You want the MAST for the antenna, as the remainder of the assembly an amplifier. Look on eBay. I've seen the whole units on occasion for way less than $100.
