Just ordered my MDX from Acura West (London) today. Looks like I won't get my green one until Aug. Going to be a hot summer, and my current Corolla has no A/C! I hope they can get me my MDX sooner...

:) It's here! That was a long 3 months, but what a nice vehicle. My eight-year-old thinks it's "cool", but my wife, always unimpressed with cars and technology, beleives she's married to a yuppie. Mea culpa I suppose. Who cares; I have a great car!

This thread have been quite since August .... no new MDX buyer in Canada??
Anyway, just ordered a 2002 SS from Casino Acura, Hull, PQ (I live in Ottawa), fairly decent experience with the salesperson.
Has anyone ordered parts from Tim at Hondacuraworld, how does the taxes (PST + GST + ??) and import duties works? I heard that since the Acura parts are made in US, under NAFTA the import duties is quite reasonable.

Wongster -- I ended up buying my accessories from the dealer, for 2 reasons:

1) Wanted him to do the installation of the side steps and deflector. Although I'm pretty handy, I could not bring myself to drilling holes in my new vehicle; also, I wanted to ensure that the warranty on the truck/accessories was not voided.

2) Exchange rates! Tim does have great pricing and service, but my Canuck Buck just doesn't cut it these days....

Curious as to why you bought in Québec when you live in Ontario. I would have thought the PST in Ontario was lower than the QST...

It is cheaper to buy certain things from Tim.

Bonjour Pierre,
As you may already know, Ottawa, ON and Hull, PQ is only separated by the Ottawa River, many Ottawians work and buy car in Hull, and many Hull'ers work and buy car in Ottawa. The dealers in the Ottawa-Hull region usually charge the provincial tax based on your province of residence.

I fully agree and share your logic = buying parts from the dealer which require installation and get the 3 years warranty on it. But what about parts like cargo net or wheel locks (no installation required)? I checked Tim's website and his price is great = even after I put in the exchange rate (1.57), the New York state tax (8%) and an additional 10% for shipping to Canada, it is still 25 - 30% cheaper than the Cdn MSRP. Having said that, the wild card is import duties, which I have no idea how it is calculated, but I would imagine that the 25-30% savings should be able to cover the duties.

Thoughts anyone??

Just ordered!

Just ordered my 02 Silver Metallic from Acura West in London. Delivery date is to be late January. Have been a member here for a few weeks and certainly found the site to be immensely helpful in my decision making process.

It will be a long three months!:(

WINTER TIRES

Long time no check in !! I have put 77,000 kms on my 2001 black beauty,,,,it's October,,,I'm in Canada,,,I need new tires.
I wasn't really impressed with the Michelins last winter, the only other models that fit that I can find are the Pirelli Scorpions or a slightly oversized Toyo. ANY SUGGESTIONS FELLOW SNOWMEN!!

Nixdad,
Are you saying your are not impressed with the Michelin (Pilot Aplin ?) winter tires and want to replace them? I do not have snow tires but I will be getting a set of Michelin Pilot Aplin this winter. I did some research last winter and basically come up with the same info you have. The Pirelli snows are less expensive but people in this forum tends to like the Michs better. I had Toyo snows on my previous car (Camry) and found them to be quite realible. Do a search on "snow tires" to see some of these discussions. Good luck.

p.s. I heard this is going to be another mild and dry winter in Ottawa, hope it doens't kill the Winterlude.

For what it's worth, TireRack recommends Michelin Arctic-Alpins for the MDX. They have a package now that has four of those on a nice spoked wheel for 784 USD. Nice thing about the package is no mounting; just bolt them on. Immediate satisfaction.

I was not impressed with the Michelin "cross-terrain" all seasons that came with my MDX.I am very surprised at how rare our size is.I REALLY like the Toyos on our BMW.I guess I'll give the Alpin Pilot a try,,,,,not much choice,,

You'll be happy with the Alpins. Friend of mine had them on his 'X last winter. I rode in it during a snowstorm - greatest traction I've ever witnessed.

Hi Pierre, nice to hear from you again. How are you enjoying the company car? Some says the best in life comes free.

Anyway I just ordered a set of Pilot Aplin, it should be in next week. Last year I tried to order a set in November, but they were all gone by the time. This time I'll be ready.

The company car (van) is, well, a company car. You're right, it's tough to beat free, but I must say that I'm not looking forward to driving in Calgary this winter with a front-wheel drive Caravan vs. the 'X. The good news is that Acura keeps improving on a good thing, and, by the time I'm ready to order another 'X ('04), it'll be even better (perhaps a Type-S???)!

I used to have a set of Arctic Alpin snows on a BMW 535i and the traction and handling was amazing. They were so smooth I even left them on into the summer before I got rid of the car. Definately recommend them.
