I noticed my rear main seal sprung a leak. The car has a fresh PCV valve. It seems the process is to drop the transmission to replace the $7 seal, what is a typical price to have this fixed? I'm seeing labor rates of 10-12 hours.

You don´t drop the engine, you drop the transmission.
But yeah that is going to cost an arm and a leg, For the MDX? I will do it in +10 hours aprox. No less than 10 though.

FYI: You don´t remove the engine because it involves a **** ton of tubing, anti-freeze and A/C lines.. Transmission removal is FAR EASIER compared to that and you typically just need to top off some leaked ATF.

How bad is the leak? If small give at205 or blue devil a try. Also use high mileage engine oil.
