After showing off my new MDX to a friend last night, he tried the back seat and asked where the Rear AC controls were. He said even his lowly van has lighted rear controls...

After reading through the manual, I am still not certain whether the rear A/C Controls should light up.

Do or should they light up?

only if you tell them to

They only light up if and are functional if you press the 'Rear Manual' button where all of the climate control buttons are. Otherwise, the climate control just manages the rear vents for you )when it's in 'full auto'.

If you have the lights on and press the Rear manual button, the whole thing lights up.

Thank you for your answer. I guess I have to wait 8 hours before I could try it.

So is the light to the rear controls dependent on the headlight switch? So even when the real manual control is activated in the front, and if the headlights are not on, does it still light up?

It needs both -- rear A/C selected from the front switch, plus the headlight switch in either of its two "on" positions.
