Question About Vinyl Care and Vinylex

After reading threads on detailing I have a question about vinyl care.

Is Vinylex (or for that matter other vinyl products) for cleaning and protecting or just a protectant?

If so what do I use for vinyl cleaning and what do I use as a protectant.

Is anyone here familiar with this product? Several posters on the BMW forum say that it works quite well.
