Q from newbie: How do YOU close the rear?

First, I want to thank everyone here for sharing all their experiences, both good and bad, with their MDX.

After looking for a SUV since seeing the Toyota Highlander at the Houston car show in March 2001, we've considered the Volvo Cross Country, Audi TT (ok, different form and function), RX300, and many others. In the end, we ordered a 2002 SS Premium at the end of August and got it a week before Thanksgiving. In fact, we got it 1 week before our quoted build date.

Paid MSRP with no forced options. Free touch up paint, paint sealant (i.e., cheap wax job), 2 years/24K of free maintenance, mud flaps, cargo tray, cargo net, cargo cover (the self rewinding thingee), Acura polo's, MDX key chains, Acura cups, 2 free airline ticket packages (worthless), and most importantly, a matching Silver MDX model. OK, the model is a 2001 model...

My question: How do you all close your rear hatch? We use the handle on the right to lower it. Do you pull it down really fast to gain momentum for it to close and lock completely. Or do you pull it down half way and then push the license plate down to close it? Any other methods???

thanks!

I pull it down until I can reach the chrome handle and then slam it (well, not too hard) shut. I use a little less force if one or more windows are open.

Sounds like you got a real good deal. Out here, I feel lucky just to be able to get it within 2 weeks at MSRP and no forced options.

Wow, am I reading this right, you got them to "throw in" all this stuff that you listed, and still only paid MSRP? Or am I not reading this right?

PS This is my first post here so I hope I did it right.
standard offer

actually, I didn't do much to get most of these "thrown in".

It's their standard offer. The only special items are the shirts and the model car, which I really wanted. :)

Beside the cargo cover/map/net, the only thing that is of value to me is the free maintenance for two years. I think it is worth $400-$600, retail.

Hope you don't mind me asking what dealer you bought your MDX from? I may need to buy mine there. ;)

I think getting the cargo cover, cargo net, cargo mat and splash guards is great and the 2 years maintenance is a major plus IMHO.
I had to twist arms here just to get them to agree to "throw in" rear splash guards, cargo net, and a cargo tray! And it's killing me to have to pay MSRP for the first time ever.
John Eagle Acura

We got it from Matt Kerridge at John Eagle Acura. You can find them at http://www.houstonacura.com/ 281-589-0600

It was a very pleasant experience. I'm sure we were an easy sell for them too as all our research was done here. We placed our order after driving their demo - about 20 minutes. Our main reason for buying it from him was the no-crap attitude.

The car came in and we went and got it. another 30 minutes or so... Our total time in the dealership was about an hour for our two visits.

We have no business affiliation with them except as a satisfied customer.

There is a toy model of the MDX?

I wonder how many toy models are there for Honda and Acura brands?

I'm glad it went well at John Eagle. I have long touted them on this site.
gadgetdog--

I do the same thing bef does, I pull down the hatch with the handle on the right until I reach the chrome ACURA thingy and push it shut.

And Congrats on your MDX.

another John Eagle Acura satisfied customer:)

congrats on your ride. I was gonna say a sick joke about closing my rear but, being the holidays, i will leave it alone
