I can not fond this info to save my life . IV got a 04 mdx with well u guessed it a smoked transmission. My question is can you put a 01-03 transmission on my 04 will it mount right up? I can find 01-03 transmissions all day long on jdm web sites but 04 and up there isn't any except on eBay for double the price and with 140k plus miles. I know the earlier trans were all weaker but i only looking to get 30k miles out of it
PLS Someone answer this question

I'd be surprised if anybody's tried it. There have been a few trans swap discussions in the past that lead me to believe that, of those three model years, only the '03 would be possible (not surprising since the trans got a redesign then, IIRC).

Here somebody suggests the case is a different length on the 01-02, so that's probably a show-stopper (not to mention the DBW issue also raised): http://www.mdxers.org/forums/2-general-discussions/9610-2003-transmission-swap-possible-01-02-a.html

There's a question as to the compatibility of the PCM and wiring harnesses across model years: http://www.mdxers.org/forums/73-first-generation-mdx-2001-2006/44154-transmission-replacement.html

From here, it looks like the '03 might bolt up OK, since the trans for both '03 & '04 was the MDKA: http://www.mdxers.org/forums/73-first-generation-mdx-2001-2006/98777-1st-generation-transmission-interchange.html

So it sounds like you might be able to put an '03 on there, but it also sounds like a bit of a crapshoot. If you try, I'm sure a lot of us would like to hear about how it goes.

01-02 won't work period. 03-04 trans are the same. 05-06 will also work. Your looking for 03-06.
